Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Seems like lately we're getting a half dozen calls a day on stuff we don't have anything to do with. Time shares, credit protection, credit reports, surveys... did that list expire or something??

Yes, it does expire, you have to re-register after the first 2 or 3 years, I can not remember which. Unless this has changed. But I have seen new scams they are using to get around this: 1) "We are not soliciting, you are already one of our current customers" 2) A blatant lie of: "You ordered from us, this, last year would you like to order more or talk about a new deal?" 3) "Is XXXX there?" No, you have the wrong number. "OH, well someone entered your phone on our website and asked for a call".

Previously it expired after a set period of time (I think it was 5 years), and you had to renew. They changed it with an updated law in 2007 that took effect in 2008 that once registered, the number would never expire. So if you had previously registered your phone number, you should be good, but you can always visit the web site and verify your number is indeed registered. https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx If it is, use the File a Complaint button.

It used to expire after 5 years. Now it never expires. You may want to resubmit your numbers.
Our numbers are on it, but I still get weekly, or more often calls, from some spoofed number(it always changes) about reducing credit card rates. And they won't remove you from their lists, even if you click through to a human, and ask politely.

Ah, yes, and 4) The automated call machines. As he already said, most like me just hang up but even if you push whatever button to speak to someone to get off their list. Guess what? You just accepted the call from them, ie they do not apply to the DNC reg.

Now if they would only update it even further and subject the politicians and their PACs to adhere to it as well. All of December through Jan 2, we had every ringer off in the house or the phone unplugged and let the answering machine answer the phone. Most days the answering machine would run out of space and stop taking messages before 5 pm.
