i'll stick with stevia if i want a sugar substitute. doesn't cause a glucose reaction and doesn't have negative side effects or dangerous long term consequences.

Anything that causes large release of insulin is going to lead to diabetes eventually. When glucose levels to spike in a short period of time (like what happens when you drink a soda or eat a few pieces of bread), the body becomes resistant to the sugar removal process and you end up with blood full of sugar that has no place to go. Being fat and having muscles already loaded with glucose exacerbates the problem.
