Subject: A Childhood friend passed away yesterday.
And when I do a google search, the first webpage that shows up is a DWI Hit Parade site. My friend died at home from an accident. He was 28. I haven't seen him in years, but we tried reconnecting last month when he made a trip to New York. Our plans fell through but I thought we'd have all the time in the world to catch up.

Anyway, when I clicked the link, I found the charges had been dropped because he blew a .03 which is nowhere near the legal limit. He submitted two letters to the site requesting to have his name dropped and they fail to oblige.

Their response to him:
DWI Hit Parade! posted:
(Editor’s Note: A BAC level of .03 while below the legal limit still indicates that the driver had been drinking prior to driving. While not illegal to do so, based solely on the BAC level, any alcohol can slow response times to challenges in operating a vehicle and lead to injury or death. Thus all of us should rely upon someone not drinking to drive or wait until the alcohol leaves the system. Having charges dropped by a prosecutor who finds that a case has been ill-prepared by police, witnesses not available or other decisions based on the information available to a prosecutor does not indicate that the charges are “empty accusations”. The public relies upon the police, prosecutors and judges to fairly enforce the law and the courts have ruled that the media has the right under the First Amendment to report actions taken by those entrusted with our system of justice. Since [my friend] admits that he was drinking and driving, although under the legal limit, and according to the court records the case was dropped by the Carroll County States Attorney; he should draw the conclusion that he was lucky that he did not cause injury or death to another and that expensive repercussions to his actions were avoided.
The Maryland State Police are extremely competent and well trained; it is up to the decisions of prosecutors as to proceed with a case and does nothing to impugn the validity of the arrest. Anyone who can point to an illegal arrest can provide the proof. As our system of laws allows the readers to have access to all arrests and for the press to report on the actions of our publicly paid law officers, the reader can draw their own conclusions about what all this means... Everyone needs to make good decisions about driving after drinking.)

This is crap. We should just trust the police even when they are clearly wrong? The site suggests we should wait until alcohol has left our system. How should we know when that is? I doubt you feel any effects whatsoever from .03. I think you can get a .02 from some cough medicine.

This makes me angry. I support a cause like this, but not to this extent. If he blew over the legal limit, fine, let the world know. He did nothing wrong and his name is tarnished because of a vindictive crusade.

I sincerely hope that his obituary overtakes this attack on his name so friends don't have to put up with this insult when trying to find out about him.

Such a shame, he had so much life in him.

It's a temperance movement disguised as a public safety campaign. It's not supposed to make sense.

It doesn't sound like they know the meaning of temperance then.

Everyone needs to make good decisions about writing copious amounts of bullshit after drinking.

Lost a few more since then.

At the time I posted this, I was under the impression it was an accident around the house, like falling off a ladder.

Apparently he was actually home alone "recreating" which is huffing nitrate oxide, and he suffocated. What a stupid way to go. He was just getting his life on track.

A guy I knew died while skinpopping oxycontin.

... it's a pill. It's a pill you are cooking up and injecting into your skin. wtf did you think was going to be the end result of this process?

(although I sometimes wonder if he damn well knew how this was going to end... he had a bad divorce and lost his kids)

Uh, obviously I was not referring to his huffing. He was in his last semester of college and was about to move to New York to begin a career. He didn't have an easy time growing up and it sounds like he was doing worse than huffing in earlier parts of his life.

Sorry man. It must be that time of year, friend of mine from way back died last night.

Dude was a doctor. Never smoked, barely drank, ran 4 or 5 miles a day, looked awesome.....died in his sleep from a heart attack at 49.

WTF?

I wish when I died I could blow up the whole universe and take it with me. None of you bastards deserve to live without me around to make fun of you.

RIP.
