Jobs was good at what he did, which was definitely a lot more marketing than anything else. But he was very good at it.
The problem with UNIX wizardry is that while it might help with back-end office stuff and with 35 year old virgins, it doesn't have any *direct* impact on the average mouth-breathing Walmart shopper. Stable server environment and revolutionized inventory management? They won't ever see that. iPhone on sale for 50 bucks off? They'll definitely see that.

Edit: inventing things is a soecial thing but productizing an invention is just as important. Steve jobs created products people use - thats worth something just as much (if not more) than the scientist who came up with the tech.
Ex. You have paint and materials nd then you have an artist that applies it to a paper and creates a painting. Both are highlights of genius.

Jobs obsession was on the user experience, and his products went past hardware design to how people integrate technology into their daily lives, and generated enough purchasing power from their customer base to get the entertainment industry to rethink how they sell and distribute their products.
Steve Jobs also helped Pixar get off the ground.
Ritchie's contribution was no doubt crucial, but I'll admit I hadn't heard about him til I read about his passing in the New York Times and Slashdot:

Well let's see here - Mac's and iPhones etc et al run a modified version of BSD which is just a modified version of... UNIX.
Most of the Apple code base is written in Objective C, which is derived from... C.
So yea, I think it's safe to say Ritchie's contributions were no doubt crucial, as virtually the entire Apple product line, or anyone else's for that matter, would not exist in their current forms without them.

OK fine - that point and your stance noted.
That's not why main stream media dismisses him - the majority of the country literally doesn't believe in evolution, so that doesn't factor in to why he's dismissed by the media.
And more to the point, highlighting such a out of context position instead of focusing on his more substantial positions (which we have literally decades of context to substantiate) proves my point.

Whether you believe me or not is irrelevant. I've stated it a few times now why I won't support Paul. Ask Look and Reese. What does Mormon have anything to do with anything. I am not voting for Romney either, which I've also stated.

Most IT people don't even believe in the importance of Job's job but to anyone looking at the rise of apple it is pretty clear it is very important. Heck most geeks will complain about what Job does well because he makes electronics more accessible. If you're applying it to politics in the US then yes I agree. I can think of other venues where your quote is inapplicable.
Re politics, one of the underlying reasons is the paucity of distinctions between our media and our political structure and those who inhabit it. In this regard we outshine even the Old Soviet Politburo and their news structure sans punctuations for denture cream and toilet paper. This is why a political party devotee sound less like an American and more like an Apparatchik.
As far as Paul is concerned specifically, I'm sure it was the horror of doing away with the Department of Education. I mean, where would the level and effectiveness of our educational system be without it? Or auditing the Fed? No, that can't be, that's just not on!
