How to get Americans back into politics.

We put a new reality show on Fox called American President. You hold auditions around the country where anyone can audition and you pull out three totally irrelevant politicians from the past to act as judges to send these people to Hollywood. Once in Hollywood, these three irrelevant politicians narrow the field down to 24 and every week there is an episode where America phones in and votes one of the hopefuls off of the show. Each week each contestant gets to practice with a speech writer and a linguist to perfect their pitch before their performance. First place becomes President, second place becomes VP. Of course, the show will be staged and we will still get the President corporate America wants, but at least now the people will feel like they once again have a voice in American Politics and it will be popular because you can vote from anywhere on your iPhone! And you have all the audition shows to portray the stupidity of the average politician which is what really hooks the viewers. With natural stupidity and creative editing, we can bring American politics into the 21st century. And make tons of $$ in the process!

How about a sane suggestion? Like making election day a national holiday or holding them on the weekends? Putting voting booths into places people actually go?

I think president should be decided by a death match TF2 style, no holds bared, any weapon you can lift you can use, last one standing gets to run the country for a month. Idocracy in action. NFL would fold up shop.

First of all, which national holiday are you suggesting we give up for this mythical "election day" holiday? Christmas? Thanksgiving? New Years? The corporatocracy would not allow such a thing. Why would you need voting booths when you can vote right from your $500 iPhone or telephone, or computer? Even if you did both of those things people wouldn't care. You HAVE to put it in the form of a reality TV show. Maybe we could take all the political candidates and dump them on an island on June 4th, then go pick them up on July 4th and whichever one is still alive is president. No food, nothing. Just drop them off and come back on July 4th. We can have cameras and helicopters covering it 24/7. If we get there on July 4th and no one is alive, well, we'll have to take care of ourselves until next June 4th.

There isn't an amendment that says we can only have X Holidays a year. We can add a new one without getting rid of any the old ones. Szerek posted: Why would you need voting booths when you can vote right from your $500 iPhone or telephone, or computer?
If we can solve the technology issues, I have no problem with this. Expanding polling places will still be necessary. Grandma is gonna want to go to vote. Szerek posted: Herp derp

To get me back caring about politics is to stop the partisan squabbling. I know, I know, thats never going to happen. What was I thinking.

Republicans would never allow any of this.
But a reality show? Szerek may be on to something. Add NASCAR somehow and we have a hit.
