This is a tough call. I think they should have to report child abuse of any kind. Beyond that I am not sure. I read an article about the influx of methamphetamine users with severe burns from trying to make their own meth using a process they call "shake and bake". Apparently this is done using empty two liter bottles. They can get both thermal and chemical burns from accidents involving this method. Many will lie about how they got burned to avoid being reported and then suffer additional effects from lack of treatment of chemical ingestion/contact/respiration such as blindness or respiratory failure.
By the way, uninsured meth cook influx is now running into the hundreds of millions of dollars. It costs an average of about $6,000 a day to treat them, and several burn clinics in high meth areas have shut down due to losses.

Hmm, will definitely be a touchy subject when they finally get around to addressing it.
On the one hand, reporting them will make them easier to convict if they got hurt doing illegal things, such as cooking up meth.
On the other hand, if they know that the hospital is required by law to report them if they suspect illegal activity, people may not go in for treatment, which could make things worse for them in the long run.
Maybe first offense give them a warning? But that might just mean they'll be a lot more careful in making it in the future. Maybe the doctor should keep a picturebook of all the meth makers they had to treat, and show them how horrible it can get if they keep it up. Might scare some of them straight (but I'm sure some won't care).

I do not have a problem with them reporting any injury that has signs of it being caused by something unusual or someone experimenting with chemicals.

I don't think they should, but that bridge was crossed a long time ago. You are simply advocating they report more then they do now.

I think that drug use should result in being put into a rehab program. Other than that they should be reported. Those cooking meth included because they are potentially looking to harm others.

Most hospitals already report all suspicious injuries. In many states, it's required by law. I know in Illinois they have to report all suspected assault, knife wounds, gun shot wounds and any wounds that are consistent with recognized criminal activity.
However all that is mandated is that they report it, the victim doesn't have to talk about it to the hospital...or the cops.
