Would my taint notice a big difference going from this (came with my bike) to this or this? Or should I just get some skin-tight padded bike shorts and look like a poof?

The other ones look softer, especially in the gooch area. I would say you should think about changing the saddle as well. It only takes one slip up for that pole that's holding the saddle to go right up through your ass. I knew a kid who it happened to, his name was Luke. Went right through his gooch and bounced off his ass bone, almost died. We called him Sarah

Depends on your riding habits. Are you road biking 50 miles or more, trying to pass the cars around you and yelling at the ones you can't? You'll get used to the harder seat once you stop putting all your weight on it. Are you riding a touring bike for 10 - 20 miles on the weekends looking more like Elmo on his tricycle than Lance Armstrong on the Tour de France? Get a cushy seat and enjoy yourself.

You need the padded shorts with any of those saddles. You can get mtn biking shorts, they have a big outer short with hidden tights/pads.

I definitely like the split rail seats the best. They are going to be the most comfy over the long term. I have a koobi on mine. Not a lot of padding on it, but once my "sit bones" get used to it, I can ride all day and im not numb after.

Dont get those skin tight shorts. DOnt ride road bikes because the riders are snobbish and fashion conscious even if their fashion is massively dorky

Get a padded bike seat, a gel one that isnt too huge so it looks funny

I've got a mountain bike and so far my riding has been limited to local paved park trails (still haven't worked up the courage to do any actual off-road riding... I hiked a mountain bike trail last month and was slacked-jawed by what those fuckers were doing effortlessly that would've had me crapping my pants). I've been doing ~5 miles but last Saturday I did 10 and boy howdy.

1. I have a split seat and it was a big help.

2. You don't need to go hard core on a mountain bike. An easy trail will start you out just fine.

3. You need good shorts with padding with all seats.

4. Yes, there are a lot of monons who give street bikers a bad name. They are a small but visible group. Ignore then and don't hate everyone for the actions of a few.

5. Start slow and have fun. If it hurts you are doing it wrong.

A seat is something you sit on. A saddle is something to support some of your weight. That's why performance bikes use saddles, and why they hurt your ass when you're not used to them.

The point of the cushion (chamois) in biking shorts isn't to make the pressure off the saddle, it's so your crotch doesn't look like hamburger after a 100-mile ride. So unless you're planning on doing century rides I wouldn't worry about the shorts.

It's not your shorts that make you look like a poof.

I always wanted one of the stick shift 5 speeds when I was a kid. Never got one. The COOLEST bike I think I ever had was a normal single speed that my buddy had put 10 speed curled handle bars on. It was kind of wild.

I'm with you on this Cobane. I dont need all that frigging hard aerodynamic seat stuff. Besides if you feel your performance is effected just wear one of these. I will wear one of these to my office next week. I wonder if new clients will think me odd.

That reminds me I have a velodrome close to my house. Has anyone tried a velodrome?

There's one of those up in Frisco. You have to go at least 15 mph or something or you'll fall off the corners and die, I guess.

RH, my ass would eat that for second breakfast.
