After botching two punt returns, the first of which forced the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants into overtime, the second of which gave the Giants an opportunity to clinch the win, Williams was subjected to a level of blistering ire on social media that would lead one to believe he had gathered up all the kittens in the world and set them on fire. Let's also not forget Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff, who hooked a field goal in the last few seconds of the game against the Patriots that could have tied the game and sent it into overtime. He got a small piece of the rage pie, as well. 	Nah. Here's my rant for the night. I think that the fact that so many people take stupid ball games like this so seriously is a great example of what is wrong with this world. At least in international sports events, the rage and pride is based in part on nationalism instead of just being "my favorite colored sports team is better than your favorite mascot sports team! ahahahah!" I mean, I could probably even get in to sports viewing a lot more than I am now if most sports fans weren't quite so imbecilic, only to rivaled by there fans, of course. Some players have a bad game. Some have better games than usual. Get over it, it's just a game, and if you had money riding on it, that's your stupid fault not theirs. When people collectively began calling these lifelong man-children who play a damn game for wages that exceed those of world renowned scientists and medical doctors "heroes" is when I lost all taste for it. At least, once upon a time, only truly great athletes were considered heroes. Men and woman that broke racial and gender barriers or inspired nations during times of war or economic recession. Men and women who played the games professionally AND had a real job OR served in the armed forces. Now, we call rapists and child abusers heroes. We consider dog fighting ring runners and tax evaders to be paragons. DUI after illegitimate child after hushed over domestic violence case, we shower these steroid ridden freaks with money and celebrity status and notes of adoration. No, I can not rationalize giving money to these people and their handlers. Sports entertainment generates a lot of revenue and jobs for this country and the world, and we would be hurting without it. Every fan base has bad apples. Some more than others. Major markets usually have the worst. NY, CHI, BOS, LA. But it's usually because they have much larger fan bases. -----signature----- (none)
