It's true!! http://www.calgaryherald.com/entertainment/Vampire+warrior+snatches+office+crown/6039572/story.html nderworld Awakening, about the exploits of a woman vampire warrior, grabbed top North American box office honors in its opening weekend, industry tracker Exhibitor Relations said Monday. The 3D film starring Kate Beckinsale garnered $25.3 million at the box office, outmaneuvering the debut of Red Tails, which recounts the World War II deeds of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of black pilots, with $18.8 million. The two new films pushed last week’s top attraction, Mark Wahlberg’s crime drama Contraband, to third place with $12 million over the weekend. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, the Tom Hanks-Sandra Bullock story of a family impacted by the 9/11 attacks, brought in $10 million in its first weekend of wide release. Rounding out the top 10 were action flick Haywire ($8.4 million), Beauty And The Beast in 3D ($8.8 million), Joyful Noise ($5.9 million), Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol ($5.6 million), Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows ($4.5 million) and The Iron Lady ($3.7 million).

Poor George Lucas. His great return to film gets pwned by a sequel to one of the worst movies ever.

Topping box office does not equal a good movie. Avatar is evident of this.

what? i thought the first one was pretty good for being romeo and juliet with vampires that weren't sparkling gaybags. also, i saw kate on chelsea lately promoting this. how is she still the hottest woman alive?

Admittedly, the Underworld series is not exactly Grate Cinemaâ„¢, but it's far from "one of the worst movies ever".

I never said it wouldn't make money. Bad movies make money all the time. Look at The Devil Inside, which came out the first week of January. It has 7% on Rotten Tomatoes - meaning, it is *bad* - but made over 33 million in its opening weekend. There is no correlation between a good film and how much money it makes, just as there is no correlation between cheeseburgers and how many sell. It's all about marketing. McDonald's makes crappy burgers, yet sell the most - because they manage the marketing well. The unfortunate side effect is that Hollywood does not focus on making "good" films - instead they focus on making "marketable" films. It is a business, first and foremost, and their main interest is making money.
