one of the best scotus decisions in some time...and it was unanimous!
they had no obligation to vote the way they did and i fully expected them to side with authorities...

This is good news, but does not go far enough yet.

A mistake was obviously made here. Next year some other case will get forced up to them so they can reverse unanimously.

As it was, there were only a couple states that had laws against the practice. I'd read of police using some type of projectile they could shoot at vehicles to adhere a tracking device. All done without warrants!

I agree, as the unanimous decision bares out, it doesn't go far enough. I'm really happy it was unanimous though. Maybe that this was a unanimous decision will send a signal to the rest of government that it has gone off the rails. (Too much to hope for probably) The awful Citizen's United outcome still needs to be dealt with.

I read somewhere that the argument by the folks defending warrant-less GPS monitoring included mentioning that they could do it to the Supreme Court Justices. I thought that was hilarious. Either way good decision.

One extra large portion of humble pie for all the Scalia haters. “We hold that the government’s installation of a GPS device on a target’s vehicle, and its use of that device to monitor the vehicle’s movements, constitutes a ‘search,’†Justice Antonin Scalia wrote for the five-justice majority. The majority declined to say whether that search was unreasonable and required a warrant.
