Chip Kelly to the Bucs?

Wonder how he would pan out. I imagine he would have to change his scheme(s) dramatically. http://www.kgw.com/sports/UO-coach-Kelly-talking-to-Bucaneers-137862123.html PORTLAND -- University of Oregon football coach Chip Kelly is close to signing a deal with the NFL, a source says. Kelly is reportedly in the process of finalizing a deal that would make him the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A source close to the situation told KGW Kelly will make the jump to the NFL if he can come to terms on a contract. Kelly has been Oregon's head coach for three years, winning the conference title in all three, reaching three straight BCS games. The crowning achievement coming three weeks ago, when the Ducks won their first Rose Bowl game in 95 years.

Not sure why everyone thinks he can't bring something new and successful to the NFL. If the NFL never had innovators it would be the same game it was 60 years ago.

NFL players are too big and fast for his type of game, that's why.

Innovation is one thing. What he does at Oregon would never work in the NFL. Same reasons Michigan's attempt at the spread never worked in the Big Ten.

You realize teams run spread offenses in the NFL right? Gimme a break. I wonder how the Oregon offensive pace will do in the NFL...will be interesting for sure.

yeah like I said I hope it isn't the case. I can see how he would be dumb not to take a jump at mega millions. I just think it is sad because I don't believe we will be able to get a good coach replacement honestly.

Urban Meyer will bring the spread to the big ten, and i'm willing to bet it will work.

"The spread" is a very, very vague term. Northwestern runs a "spread" offense. It varies greatly from the "spread" at Texas or Florida. What Chip Kelly does at Oregon will not translate to the NFL. He uses a lot of speed and a lot of tiny players, which can make for great college players when they play in the right system but it hardly ever translates to the pros. What Oregon is doing is similar to what Rich Rodriguez did in West Virginia. It was an offense of Pat White and his cast of receivers that no one can mention without searching on Google. For every speedy, undersized Dexter McCluster you get you have entire teams that don't go pro. It's just the way the NFL is built. If Chip Kelly even dreams of putting in that kind of system in TB it will take several years of drafting/trading/signing to get players of that ilk in each skill position.

Not gonna work when you start messing with size. Size is related to speed. Speed is related to timing. Slow players in that system get wrecked. It's not fun when you have Ray Lewis blowing up your running back or Julius Peppers in your backfield.

he needs to wait a year or two and when the timing is right go to the panthers when cam has matured a little. by then he will have a more proven track record in college ball. the nfl will continue to make it easier on the offenses and then when no one is allowed to make a hard hit anymore in the pros he can hop onto carolina and put in his system with cam... his system will work in the pros he just needs the right pieces, GB and indy with peyton have already proven that fast paced offenses do work. only thing really holding kelly back at oregon from having 3 NC teams is the fact oregon is happy to get a couple 4 star recruits each year. if kelly had usc's talent or floridas he would have a NC or 2 already.

there's not a chance in hell any decent coach will take the Bucs (Glazers) coaching job... the Glazers have their fingers in too far many pots to properly spend money the Glazers own Manchester UNited Business history Glazer’s first attempt at a corporate takeover was in 1984, when he launched an unsuccessful $7.6 billion bid to buy the bankrupt freight rail company, Conrail. He also failed in an attempted takeover of kitchen designer Formica in 1988 and, later, with motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson. One of the companies that Glazer did purchase successfully was the nearly bankrupt Zapata Offshore, a remnant of Zapata, an oil and gas company founded by George H. W. Bush, which was left over after the latter's takeover by South Penn Oil to create Pennzoil. Glazer successfully diversified it into fish protein and Caribbean supermarkets. Glazer has owned a diverse portfolio of nationwide investments which include food service equipment, food packaging and food supplies, marine protein, broadcasting, health care, property, banking, natural gas and oil, the Internet, stocks and bonds.
