The food sounds pretty terrible.
vegetarian curries and tamales, quinoa salads and pad Thai noodles
Prepared by the school lunch lady no less.
I'd wouldn't eat that crap either.
I'm also curious as to why not one student was interviewed.

They do seem to have confused healthy food with ethnic food.
Why not grilled chicken (flavored with something healthy - citrus maybe?) cooked in some coconut oil served with fresh green beans good applesauce?
I'm no expert at cooking - in fact I suck at it. But they do seem to have way overcompensated.

But besides that, wasn't the point of school lunches according to the big gubberment folks that;

Salads with a vinigrette dressing, healthy submarine sandwiches, freshly made soup, chicken chili, basic stirfrys with brown rice, soft shelled chicken tacos on while grain flatbreads..the list is endless.
