Define "bad". Humanity learned a lot from every powerful man.

Really? It seems to me that humanity continues to make the same mistakes over and over.

Yes and we have learned to be better and better at making those same mistakes.

Without Hitler we would never have had the GI Bill and VA loans!!! Nor would we have had Baby Boomers who thought up all the toys you play with while they were stoned! Hitler remade the USA.

Of course we are. There are two kinds of democracy, representative democracy and direct democracy. We are a mix of both kinds.

Using Paul logic, every system of government vests absolute power in someone. I'd rather it be a whole bunch of people than just one dude. Enlightened despots have existed throughout history but never for more than two or maybe three generations. That seems to be the limit of depostism. Democracy, on the other hand, seems to have a shelf life of at least several hundred years.

There is no bad act of rulership that can be committed by an individual that cannot also be committed by a majority. Why is it better to be abused by a majority?

We do and it is so pathetically obvious that we do that it is an embarrassment to our species. We are utterly gullible, predictable and controllable.

This is true with notable exceptions. The first that comes to mind is Washington. He gave up total power not once but three times. Unfortunately he is one of the rare ones. Most those we think of as great were far from nice people. I look at them thought the prism of history. What good did they create? What lasting changes did they make? The judgment as to good or evil I leave to God. What many here do not understand is the rule of law vs. the rule of men. While the law can be flawed it is the arbitrary rule of men that is the great danger. The law restricts men from the use of power. This was understood by the left very well when security issues came up with Bush. It seems to be totally forgotten when Obama came into office. Liberals support his actions based on their own likes and desires; not the written law. Not that this has not been a problem with liberals for some time now. I said many times; liberals work on the “whatever it takes†principle. We need only look at Roe vs. Wade to understand how awful the results of such thinking are. Agree or disagree with Roe vs. Wade and the need or crime of abortion; the way it was forced on the country has created a divide that is unending. Liberals should fall to the ground and think Mother Earth that conservatives believe in the rule of law as much as we do. Otherwise there would be no liberals left. With a few notable exceptions, that were universally condemned, conservatives have never taken up arms in support of the children they see murdered. You will see liberals flocking to every “event†they think the press will cover while conservatives do their best to work within the system for change; for which they earn the title of fascist from the liberals.

There are three kind of liberals; Stupid, ignorant or evil The result is always evil but the intent is not always evil. Not that it makes much difference in the long run. No one here is exactly as they seem. - G'Kar

You're more likely to be part of that majority, than to be that single individual. That's all there is behind it.
