PROS:

1. Story is fun and usual Bioware quality.
2. I'm happy with the GFX.
3. I'm happy with the sound.
4. I like the space combat for what it is.
5. I like the Warzone combat.
6. I am "mostly" pleased with class balance.

CON:

1. Open world PVP is a wreck. Imbalanced sides, boring objectives, bad FPS.
2. The UI customization can not come soon enough.
3. I have issues with keys that can not be rebinded or unbinded.
4. Not enough variety in armor types at high lvl. Lacks customization options.
5. 1.1 patch screwed up tracking of longer duration CDs.

---------------

In short they have a solid "base game". The question is can they roll-out the features the community is demanding in a timely basis while still squishing bugs.

I am subbed and will continue to be subbed. I will likely buy GW2 for better PVP, but that is not a subscription game so I can keep both.

I've put in roughly almost 200 hours into the game so far so I definitely got my money out of it so far.

If you are looking for a MMO with a very strong single player story focus AND you are interested in Star Wars, you will probably love the game.

What does that statement mean?
It means you can play from level 1 to 50 using one of the 8 character classes and get a totally unique story that is very well done, with excellent combat and nice zones.

You can play through a second time on the OPPOSING faction from the first and get another totally unique story, without doing any quests over again.

After that, you end up with cross over, where the main class story is good but you start doing the normal quests over and over again.

Now, if you are only going to play one character, you will run into issues after you hit the level cap because the PVP and the Instanced Raid/Group content is still 6-9 months away from being good OR having enough here to keep most people busy for more than a few weeks IMO.

Now for myself:
I hit level 50 the other day and I just completed the Jedi Knight story line today, so there is roughly 30-50 hours more play left for me until I gear up my character fully, buy all the skills, etc, etc, assuming I choose to max out my level 50 Jedi.

Having fun. Moments of drained motivation and ADD have left me low level.

SWTOR: General Board?

Fine. I'm willing to. I have your word I won't get banned if it starts a board riot?

Or did you mean on EA's TOR forums?

Besides their non-existent customer service I have no issues.

I complained about the memory leak/texture overwrite issue a bunch, but seriously the lack of timely customer service will piss any customer off.

I read it.

It says, One Analyst.

One doesn't mean all. It's like saying correlation implies causation.

It's not just true, because one person says so.

Escapist Article posted:
Of course, EA is keeping mum about how much money it actually spent, so there's no hard data to support this theory. Still, it wouldn't be all that surprising if it turned out to be true: If you're going to make a game that will possibly unseat World of Warcraft, you better go big or go home.

Doug Cruetz - an analyst posted:

"I think it's safe to say that the total all-in investment in 'Star Wars' is probably approaching half a billion dollars. EA has minimized its risks as much as it can on this bet, but it's still a risky bet. To the extent that any one game defines his tenure, it's going to be how Star Wars performs."

MMORPG.com posted:
This means that, assuming EA is only giving The Old Republic a year to break even (remember, an aggressive measure), EA is requiring $153 million from The Old Republic to break even. Round that down a bit to $150 million, and that starts to look suspiciously like the sort of round number batted around in executive planning sessions, doesn't it?

$150 million dollars.

This would easily make The Old Republic the most expensive computer game ever produced.

And that is what I mean by EA attempting, at one swoop, to spend the rest of the industry into the ground. Because EA is one of the few publishers that can even consider a $150 million project.

So - we've got estimates on both ends of the spectrum. EA won't divulge the numbers. So...that leaves us where?

that is unsatisfactory customer service in any industry.

Do you not understand the difference between a csr and a developer?
Csr's have nothing to do with the coding or the operation of the game.
Their only job is to respond to customers, unless EA/BW is being cheap and forcing members of the dev team to cover customer support.
They could have took the time to give a response that is the job of customer service. If they dont have adequate staffing to respond in a timely manner then hire more mtherfcking people.

Whenever you go into a "Green wall" area it says "No more than one player of this type of class can enter."

It happens 3-4 times through the first 10 levels.

I couldn't last two weeks

I loved the Knights of the old republic games.

I couldn't get into this one.

it just felt like I was playing WoW with a star wars skin. Maybe it was the sage class but the storyline was uninteresting and I didn't care about the characters at all. Wish I could have had a different companion at the start,

having lots of fun, the jk story is awesome. but without macros and add ons or some crazy 15 macro mouse its difficult to play my class, so i probably won't do much at 50 with this char at least until they add macros and add ons

You obviously didn't play the game..

Whenever you go into a "Green wall" area it says "No more than one player of this type of class can enter."

It happens 3-4 times through the first 10 levels.

That's your class quest instance. If you're in a group they can come in as long as they aren't the same class (or you enabled same-class in class quest instances in your options)

The ONLY quests that are such that grouping with another person of the same class becomes an issue is the class quest story line.
ALL other content you can group with others of the same class just fine.

And even the class quest story line can be grouped with another person of the same class.
You first have to change a setting to allow same class to enter class quests area.

The first person to enter the area is the quest owner, and will be the only one of the class to complete it.
The other person of the same class upon attempting to enter will get a two choice window...to join the same instance as you, or to enter a new instance. If they choose to enter your instance, they can participate in helping you to complete the fights, but will only be a spectator in the conversations.

You need to leave the instance and allow the other person to enter, and do the quest again to complete the class quest for them.

So the answer to my question would be yes... it still happens.

Nobody else finds that pretty annoying?

If myself and 3 friends want to quest and play the same class, we have to do them all 3 times plain

No, I do not find it annoying. The class quest series was really designed to be done solo.

It is the only quests where this will be an issue. But if you you all want to play the same class, and group together for the class quest, then yes, you will have to complete it 4 times if there are 4 of you.

I didn't read the thread, but heres my experience.

My friends call me up, tell me they are going to play.

I have two weeks off of photoshoots, so I crank a Sith Juggernaut (ive always played a tank) to level 50 in 7 days. Start WZing.

Empire on my server couldn't win a WZ if you paid them. Theres at least 4-5 Juggs in each WZ, and no healers. Empire couldn't roll a healer to save their lives (giggle).

So doing my daily / weekly pvp quests takes about 40-50 WZ's to win 9, as well, half the time when I win a WZ, I dont get credit, quest bug, which is enraging.

I dont really know what to do with my jugg in pvp, I went tank spec, and spend my time guarding / keeping the few healers we do have alive. Results in about 7-9 medals a WZ, but I couldn't kill a repub if I tried.

Illum is a retarded waste of time on our server. We just camp the republicans in their base all damn day. So boring.

So I rerolled an operative, leveling him now. We will see how that goes. Its an amazing game, and the leveling is crazy fun. Im just a sh*t Juggernaut, haha.

The implications of this figure are even more staggering when you think it through a bit more. Take for purposes of back-of-the-envelope speculation that EA is willing to give The Old Republic a year to earn back their investment (a very aggressive figure, by the way). And let's just assume that out of your stereotypical $15-a-month subscription fee (which Bioware has hinted is not the only possible revenue source for the game), much of that is taken up due to operational expenses - bandwidth, facilities costs, keeping a live team on the payroll. It's safe to say that Bioware will need probably close to a 25-person live team (an expansion presumably having its own budget). Assume $250,000 a month in payroll and facilities costs (and I am probably vastly underestimating here). Figure $2 per person per month in bandwidth, facilities, and server support (a very rough estimate based on prior performance, and assuming the MMO provider is hosting their own servers and buying bandwidth in bulk). Everything else - ignoring for the sake of discussion marketing, community, any other cost - is operating profit, which by EA's own estimation has to go back to fund that initial investment so that they can break even.

Pros-

Really strong single-player storylines, Bioware-style storytelling. At least Empire-side; I've heard the Republic, and the Jedi in particular, are kind of letdowns. I'm almost done with my Inquisitor storyline and it's been a blast. I've heard the Agent storyline is good as well, so I'll roll one of those up too. The Warrior, so far, hasn't been as interesting as the Inquisitor storyline, but they get way more darkside choice opportunities.

The mod system is really strong; I've been wearing the same set of armor for 30 levels simply because I haven't found anything that I like the look of better, and I'm not gimped for making that choice. The mod system allows me to keep up.

For the most part, the worlds and their individual storylines are interesting. Tatooine, Hoth, and Corellia have probably been my least favorite.

There is a variety of quest and group content to do the entire time you're levelling. I never had to sit and grind mobs to advance; I'm 50 and I still haven't finished Corellia, or my class quest. I did only one Flashpoint (instance) while levelling with an actual group at the level it was intended for; the rest I just let sit in my quest log and soloed them later. It's nice that I'm not forced into doing that to advance.

The 'I've wandered into an area and am assigned a kill quest' or Bonus Quests are great, because they're largely optional, they're automatically assigned, and more often than not you end up completing them just trying to achieve your primary quest objective (which is usually a lot more interesting than 'collect 6 boar meats').

I haven't encountered any game-breaking bugs. Most of the time my companions just despawn when I feel they shouldn't (like after taking a taxi) but that just means I get to summon them and slap them in the face with my racial. Punishment for your sins, worm!

Cons-

Space combat, while pretty-looking, is rather dull. It's not poorly done in the sense that it's buggy, it's just kind of a jarring transition from normal play to...HD Starfox.

If you're like me and you wait until the level cap to start your professions, you'll find it tedious. It's also pretty expensive. It's not a bad system, but I wish it didn't consume so much time.

Some of your companions are basically useless beyond their individual storylines. I switch between two (DPS and Tank) and that's about all I need. It's also a pain to gear them, because they'll suck horribly unless you find socketed items and waste planet commendations on buying mods for their gear. This is in addition to trying to buy your own commendations.

I can't speak for level-cap content yet, so I'll hold my thoughts on that for now.

I like it, but am kind of burnt out on mmogs at the moment. I have played my jedi sentinel of to 16. Havent logged in in a couple weeks. I turn off all the chat and only play solo. Been replaying ME2 and all the dlc for it in prep of ME3 in March. Plus Skyrim still on my desk as well. Too many things going on give it much time, good game though.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention - my biggest gripe about the whole game is lack of UI customizability. Hell, just a UI scale option would be nice.

also grouping with someone who has the same chain quest but at you are at different steps causes issues with "instanced" or "spawned" encounters.

I loved the Knights of the old republic games.

I couldn't get into this one.

it just felt like I was playing WoW with a star wars skin. Maybe it was the sage class but the storyline was uninteresting and I didn't care about the characters at all. Wish I could have had a different companion at the start,

Sage is honestly one of the worst story lines, the best by far that I have played is the Imperial Agent. The voice acting, quests and everything are on a completely different level to the sage. Not to mention regular quests seem to be better on the Imperial side as so many Republic "bonus" quests (the ones with stages not the one and done version) follow this:

Stage 1 Kill X number of Mobs
Stage 2 Kill X + more of the exact same mobs you just did
Stage 3 Destroy or loot something from crates
Stage 4 Kill elite

At least for the imperial side stage 2 has always been different, it's almost annoying when you finish stage 1 to kill 20 of X and then stage 2 comes up and it's 40 of the exact same mobs. I haven't run in to this at all on the Imperial Side.
