Subject: Quote from Swami Prabhupada (1973)
"The people at the present moment, they are all rascals. Just like animals. And yes, actually they are animals. Just like animals are eating, sleeping, mating, and eating meat. The other one animal is eating another animal. That's all. No discretion, nothing. This is a civilization of animals, polished animals. Their consciousness has become animalistic. Therefore this Krsna consciousness movement. Just like children. They are animals, just like animals. They have no fixed program. Whatever they like, they are doing. Whatever they like, they are speaking. Simply they are interested in eating. So at the present moment, because they have lost all their power of reasoning and understanding, they are all animals."

Our race has dwindled to the level of a lower life form and lost our ability to reason consciously and compassionately..

He goes on in this talk to speak of modern day thinkers, our concept of god etc.. very interesting and sad.

His thinking is muddled, scattered, and animalistic. I am sure that a swami from days gone by had a more conscious and focused theory.

Eating meat is fine in that evolutionary context where people were trying to survive and were opportunistic. Much thought went into killing and consuming the animals. Today if people had to kill their own meat almost everyone would be vegetarian, fact! Including you Konehead.

Today people just drone ahead in their daily lives consuming things without much thought at all which is what this swami was trying to point out. People today are as conscious about what they are doing as a conveyor belt is about conveying, they simply drone ahead eating what they want, saying what they want and hurting those they hurt without even a thought about consequences. The fact that you don't understand what he is saying and what it means on a larger scale simply proves your are an outposter.. congrats. applause

Uhm, then why is it that when people did have to kill their own meat literally no one was a vegetarian? confused

Do you not stop to think logically even for a microsecond? I'm guessing you can't - not enough meat in your diet.

Rant? lol

And it wasn't really a support for vegetarianism but rather a perspective from an enlightened being.

Yes this is true but it was a thoughtful act, an act that took planning and a conscious effort. The animals were respected and every part used, nothing wasted. Today it is all for profit and greed and there is zero respect for the animal.

Modern slaughterhouses waste less of the animals today than any primitive society ever did. Throwing any any part of the animal becomes a cost rather than a profit. grin

I totally disagree. People think they are acting on their own goals but their goals are the goals of marketing and government schooling that has taught them to live and behave in certain ways. This behavioral modification is deeply rooted and stems from the desire to control the masses and turn free thinking people into worker bees who consume the way they do to keep the economic wheel turning and solidify the status quo..

Rascals!

No, it is more about the economies of scale. Modern agriculture is needed to support the number of people on the planet. The resources just aren't available with the waste introduced by having everyone farm and hunt for themselves. grin

I just read thruough some of the swami's posting, it's pretty much a crapfest. Why do you like it?

Instead of trying to understand some of those issues, he just goes "I don't get it so how can it be?" There is really no value in anything he's saying, you might as well be posting a rant by Tom Cruise about the evils of psychology.

We've seen this before on the OP - it seems like Colonus goes through these phases.

He's probably secretly eating meat a couple of weeks per month, but by the end has such a protein deficit his brain is randomly starting to shut down.

"Worker bees" are the majority of the population for humans throughout history just like any other social animal. Even back in primitive times, people would generally go along with the desires of the tribal chief and medicine man; anyone who went against the flow would be kicked out of the tribe and forced to survive on their own. This doesn't mean that the "worker bees" were without thoughts or dreams of their own however.

There is precious little examples throughout history where you would have a community of any decent size where everyone was a "free thinker" who could do what they want (especially since most of history had slavery and/or women subjugated to status little more than property). grin

This is what I am talking about when I say 'conscious', he is clearly putting thought into his act and does it in a way that has the least impact on the animals he is hunting, selecting purposely certain animals and not others.

People don't use their brains today for anything else but greed and gluttony and if they do society calls them philanthropists or strange/eccentric.

Actually there is a ton of evidence (physical, behavioral, cultural, and evolutionary) to suggest this is simply not true - concerning women.

It has only been this way for the past about 6k years... meaning we even made it about half way into the agricultural age before we subjugated women on a massive scale. IMO we can blame the rise of Religiousness for this.
