Subject: Cold Weather Gloves?
Anyone have some suggestions for a good pair of gloves?

I'm outside in 0-32° weather with 20+mph winds for at least 6 hours a day. I don't move too much so I need something that will really protect and warm my hands.

I've been checking out this zappos website, the gloves look sweet but there are few reviews and they don't seem to have a consistent weather rating system.

Currently I'm just using a pair of liners and a wool/leather hybrid that doesn't do quite enough. I think I have an issue of circulation, my aunt is diagnosed with something like that... My fingers and toes (and nose) are always cold, but they're icicles when I'm outside. At least with my feet, I have good boots, good socks and I can walk a bunch so they don't bother me much.

Anyone work outside or have experience with some cold weather gloves? I figure I should start looking into arctic hunting gear tongue I'm trying not to spend an arm and a leg though.

Try a pair with Windstopper lining, it makes the world of difference in windy conditions.

Thanks guys. Rei is looking good, in my price range and some of them actually have a temperature rating.

If you don't need your fingers, mittens are warmer than gloves. grin

This. Get some Thinsulate or Smartwool glove liners, wear big mittens over them.

Make sure your mittens aren't too tight, you need some trapped air for proper warmth.

The reason the Inuit wear mitts is because all your fingers provide heat for each other - gloves are for people that want frostbite!

It is because heat loss is proportional to surface area. Mittens have less surface area than gloves. grin

Nonsense - mittens have less heat loss than gloves since the palm also provides heat within mittens, etc.

If you were to unseem the gloves and rejoin them as mitts, they'd be showing MUCH more material than mittens BUT the diff is the gloves, in order to provide flexibility, MUST have less insulation.

You might also buy some reusable pocket heaters, the kind you can boil and then reuse. Put them in your coat pocket, pop em hot and they should last for a few hours per. One example would be:

Well, when snowboarding all day I get a decent pair of waterproof gloves of any type, and a pair of good glove liners.

Good glove liners will keep your hands warm and dry all day. After that you'll need to buy those disposable heating packs for your hands if you still can't keep them warm.

If cashmere lined leather gloves are not warm enough... Then simply buy a pair of snowboarding/skiing glioves- ideally, the type with a removable inner glove.
