I may not be the “end-all be-all” of VTCL Mastery, but I think I can help those new to VTCL get started. And any VTCL Masters out there are welcome to chime in too.

Goal:
Those new to VTCL submit a detailed description of an item to be looted, and we all work together to hash out a VTCL rule that accomplishes the looting of that item. But not just spoon feeding a exported rule and saying here, use this. I want it to be elaborated why we chose which rule requirements to use, and how we decided what values to have said requirements look for. Hopefully, after only a few different requests, we will have simplified enough of the basics in a manner for everyone else to refer to and derive their own more complicated rules from.

Assumptions:
Those new to VTCL have read through the “Tutorial” (http://www.virindi.net/wiki/index.php/VTClassic_Tutorial) and are simply too overwhelmed to make sense of it all. ?

Help request procedure:
“Quote Reply” my next post in this thread and fill in the blanks as best as you can. Be as detailed on the first essay question as possible.

When choosing a sample item to copy/paste a “/VT PropertyDump” from, don’t worry about the specs of the item, just match the general category/style. (ie: weapons, if you want a uber sword, use a gimpy sword sample not a mace, wand or bow. If you want uber platemail armor, use a gimpy piece of platemail armor not scalemail or slugemail or cov.) To obtain this propertydump, you need to select the sample item and then in Chat, type:
/VT PropertyDump
Press enter. Now you’ll see your chat window get filled up with a lot of info. Select it all and copy/paste it into your request. If you are unable to procure a sample item, we will fall back to the essay question details which will hopefully paint a clear picture of what you’re looking for and maybe I or someone else can procure a sample item.

(Optional) If you have attempted to make your rule, feel free to include it in your request. VTCL has a built-in copy/paste feature in the upper left corner.

You know after looking at some stuff with the /vt propertydump command I actually figured out how to do the stuff I needed. I knew about the command but it never occured to me that the things it lists are the same things that are in the dropdowns in the classic looter options! This thread was worth it to me for me for making that simple connection in my brain. THANK YOU!

The copy/paste feature really comes in handy when taking rules from one profile and copying them into your own.

For example, you can easily pick rules out of my master.utl here, and add them to yours, like the aetheria rule: http://magtools.codeplex.com/releases/view/78138

When the weapons are consolidated in February, weapon rules will also become much more consolidated, much like bow/caster rules now.

Also, you can use Mag-tools to help test your rules. Virindi tank has built in /vt testitem, but you can also simply right click an item and Mag-tools will spit out its id info with a + in the front of the name if it would be looted according to your currently loaded loot profile.

Hmm, interesting one indeed. I only know of one name match requirement,
Requirement Type: "String Value Match"
Acts on: "Name"
String Value Pattern: NameOfItem

But it triggers if the "String Value Pattern" you enter is anywhere in the items name, thus it would loot the "Rare Crystalline Shard" as well.

We would have to add a 2nd requirement to this same rule that excludes the "Rare Crystalline Shard".

I can't explain what all the special charactors mean on this, all I know is the word you put in the middle of this mess when used with the same requirement as above will not get looted. So this is in a sense, a "Not" version of that same requirement. The entire string to use for "String Value Pattern" is:
^((?!PutWordHere).)*$

In your case, you'd replace PutWordHere with Rare

So, your rule should have the following two requirments:

Requirement Type: "String Value Match"
Acts on: "Name"
String Value Pattern: Crystalline Shard

Requirement Type: "String Value Match"
Acts on: "Name"
String Value Pattern: ^((?!Rare).)*$

I tested this, works fine. Pretty much a space is a space. happy
That expression does work to see Crystalline Shards, but not Rare Crystalline Shards. It would however also match things like Aggregate shards because they do not have the word Rare in them.
To -exactly- match Crysalline Shards and nothing else, the simplest way from me messing around is actually just doing

^Crystalline Shard$

If there is anything before or after "Crystalline Shard" it will not be a match.

Ok, which of those stats are you concerned with, and how close to perfect do you want them?

Like my wands rules only check for: (unknown) Skill 355 to Wield, +10% PvM and +15% md. I don't check for % mc, Craft or built-in spells.

[VTank] (I) WieldReqValue: 355 ** I say (unknown) because this will match Void as well. **
[VTank] (D) ElementalDamageVersusMonsters: 1.1 ** 1.09 = 9%, 1.1 = 10%, 1.11 = 11%, 1.12 = 12%.... **
[VTank] (D) MeleeDefenseBonus: 1.15 ** 1.15 = 15% same principle as above. **

I'm pretty sure each of these requirements are of the "Long Value Key" type, and you'd want to use the >= version.
If you don't want Void wands, i'd have to examine one of mine later today, I think the property for wand type is:

[VTank] (I) WieldReqType: 2 ** Since this came from your example, i'm guessing 2 = War, Not sure what Void's # is yet. **

Ok, looks like I was wrong about WieldReqType: 2 being War. I actually don't yet know what "WieldRegType" would be used for just yet.

The correct property that shows what skill the WieldReg is for is:
[VTank] (I) WieldReqAttribute: 34
(34 being War.)

The other skill numbers (except Void which is 43) are obtainable from the Info section at the bottom of VTCL. The middle drop down "<Select a Skill>". Hopefully either VI or Mag-nus will be updating that list in VTCL after the February patch. =)

Also, I was wrong about all of these being "Long Value Key". Some are "Double Value Key".

So to recap, the requirements I use for wands are:
"Long Value Key >=" "WieldReqValue" "355"
"Double Value Key >=" "ElementalDamageVersusMonsters" "1.1"
"Double Value Key >=" "MeleeDefenseBonus" "1.15"

A requirement to only loot War wands and not Void wands (which I don't use becaues I loot both) is:
"Long Value Key ==" "WieldReqAttribute" "34"

You know what, I'm starting to see a pattern on Long Value vrs Double Value. If it's a intiger the requirement is under Long Value, if it has a decimal point the requirement is under Double Value. I think, this requires more playing to be sure.

Ok, so what we're really looking for is:

WieldReqValue >= 400 ** We want 400+ swords. **
WieldReqAttribute == 11 ** Sword is 11, and we only want swords. So we're using == on this one. **
MaxDamage >= 60 ** Using >= here because you never know when turbine will up the max dmg. **

Variance <= 0.4 ** This is the property that gives us the MinDamage value of 36. And here we're using <= because if a lower variance exists, we want it!
The mathmatical equation for Variance is (Max - Min) / Max = Variance. (60-36)/60 = 0.4

You really don't need WieldReqValue.

Lets say a 370 sword meets your minimum requirements, what does it matter that its not a 400? If it meets your mins, it meets your mins...

Chances are your minimum requirements are greater or equal to only what 400 swords can generate anyway.

Thus, adding the wieldreqvalue >= 400 is not necessary.

How would I set up a rule to loot Majors that are not on weapons and are not banes?

Also, is there any limit to how long a string can be in the String Value Pattern field? I'd like to set up a single rule for all trophies but I'm worried I might break something with a hugely long value filled with |'s.

Well, I think you'll want to use more then 1 rule to start with. Here are my reasons:

1) Armor with Majors, we'll want to be picky about AL, I wouldn't wear a super crapy peice of armor just because it had Epic MeleeDef on it. happy
Also, Armor should be split into 2 rules of it's own, "Body" & "Extremities". They have different Max AL. Body caps out at about 274 and Extremities at about 310.
Body = Chest,UpperArms,LowerArms,Abs,UpperLegs,LowerLegs
Extremities = Head,Hands,Feet
**NOTE: Then there's Covenant, I haven't found any good charts that show max AL of Extremities on Cov being any different then for the Body, but we still need at least 1 extra rule just for Cov due to max al being 500+ (if you want cov that is). We also want to make sure our normal 2 armor rules exclude Cov armor.

2) Undies, well, i'm picky about coverage, I bane my undies and don't want any gaps like missing lower legs or lower arms. I was SOOO happy when Turbine fixed Abs coverage on undies. That had bugged me for soo long! =)

3) Jewlery/Trinkets, well, there's not much to be picky about here, they have neither AL nor Coverage, but being picky on the first 2 item types forces us to make a seperate rule for this item type.

sorry, i don't know. I have seperate rules for trophies that are named after the general hunting area you get them from. I think the sample loot profile I started with came that way and I've just ran with it.

Anyhow; The requirement you want to use to make sure something has a Major on it is:
"Spell Match and Count"
You can put multiple words speerated by the 'or' symbol "|" (SHIFT + \ on most keyboards) on both the "Does Match" and the "Does NOT Match" fields. (I know you know this ColdAvaton, but maybe somebody else reading this thread doesn't)
"Minimum spells that match" allows you to get picky about finding Dual Majors and so on. I leave this at 1 because I haven't found enough Majors & Epics on good gear to be that picky yet. sad

Ok, so all the rules we make to loot majors (and Epics i assume) will start out with the Requirement Type: "Spell Match and Count"

On the "Does Match" field, we enter "Major|Epic". (if you want Minors too you'd enter "Minor|Major|Epic", **Note: the the order is NOT important, i'm just OCD! hehe**)

On the "Does NOT Match" field, we enter "Bane|Ward|Gain". **NOTE: here you can also start listing other buffs you don't want to find Majors for, like "Jumping".**

On the "Minimum spells that match" field, leave it a 1 unless you only want Dual Majors/Epics

Now you can clone this rule a couple times (like 5x), rename them, and add the specifics to them...

For the "Armor - Extremities" rule, we want to add the following requirements:
"Long Value Key >=" "Coverage" "16384" **NOTE: There is a chart on VI's Wiki showing coverage values for parts of the body, and values for multi-slot coverage too. 16384 and higher is Head, Hands, and Feet. 16128 and lower covers everything except Head, Hands and Feet.**
"Long Value Key >=" "ArmorLevel" "250" **NOTE: I look for 250+ AL, you can change 250 to what you want, refer to the ac wikki for a chart showing max values of various armor types.**
"Long Value Key Has Flags" "Unenchantable" "0" **NOTE: this excludes the Unenchantable Cov and Olthoi armor**

For the "Armor - Body" rule, we want to add the following requirements:
"Long Value Key <=" "Coverage" "16128"
"Long Value Key >=" "ArmorLevel" "290" **NOTE: again, you can change 290 to meet your needs.**

"Long Value Key ==" "Coverage" "104" **NOTE: this is the value for full shirt coverage; Chest,UpperArms,LowerArms.**

For the "Underpants" rule, we want to add the following requirement:
"Long Value Key ==" "Coverage" "22" **NOTE: this is the value for full pants coverage; Abs,UpperLegs,LowerLegs.**

For the Jewelry and Trinkets rule, we want to add the following requirement:
"ObjectClass" "Jewelry" **NOTE: Trinkets are of this same class.**


So with those 6 rules, you will loot Majors & Epics on "decent" armor, undies, and jewelry/trinkets, but not weapons.

    Off hand, i'd say your rule looks good. How long have you been running with it?

    What you can do to Proof your rule here is find any old "Heabrean Pauldrons", obtain the color of it's "Ornaments" from the "/VT PropertyDump", change your rule to look for this other color and do a "/VT TestItem" on the test pauldrons. Remember to re-select your loot profile in VTank after making changes to it.

    On a side note: Do you or this guildmate have Heabrean Pauldrons with this color of "Ornaments"? Where did you pull that color from?

    Try raising the "MaxDiff (S/V 0-1)" value a bit. (or as I do, put it to 1, then reduce it back down slowly as you start finding closer matching colors.)

    If you've never seen this item with that exact color, it may not exist. I don't think colors are produced from a random number generator, I think there's set colors for different things. But that's just my theory based on my own searchings for specific colors.

    However, it looks like that is set to only pick up the pauldrons.

    Would you give an example where any armor piece for any coverage of a specific color? That is, if my color is XXXXXX, any piece of armor it will pick up of that color.

    The rule was supposed to find everything, I guess that is just for the pauldrons.

    Yes, the sample rule you gave me is indeead looking only for "Heabrean Pauldrons".

    I need you to answer the following questions:
    1) This color your after is only for the trim right?
    2) You are only wanting "Heabrean" armor right?

    To get all possible slot coverage of a certain color trim you'll need multiple rules at the moment. This is due to the Color Palette/Slot #'s for Trim being different per armor coverage.

    Your lucky your armor "style" has been added to the "Armor Type Similar Color" requirement, so what you need to do is make more rules and for each new rule, choose a different one of the "Heabrean" armor coverages from the list.
    I would have to experiment here, figure out if "Chest" and "Base" are the dyeable portions of the armor. I'm guessing so. And am going to proceed as if i'm right here. It looks like Heabrean BPs have 3 zones, 2 are likely not-dyeable. So I think you'd want 4 rules:

    Rule 1 = Heabrean BPs
    "Armor Type Similar Color" "Heabrean BP (Ornament)" "203A6D" "20" "1"
    "Armor Type Similar Color" "Heabrean BP (Trim)" "203A6D" "20" "1"

    Rule 2 = Heabrean Girths
    "Armor Type Similar Color" "Heabrean Girth (Trim)" "203A6D" "20" "1"

    Rule 3 = Heabrean Helps
    "Armor Type Similar Color" "Heabrean Helm (Mask)" "203A6D" "20" "1"

    Rule 4 = Heabrean Pauldrons
    "Armor Type Similar Color" "Heabrean Pauldrons (Ornament)" "203A6D" "20" "1"


    Then, after you find plenty of vairous shades of the color your looking for on each of the coverage types. You can try them all on and decide which RGB value for which coverage type you want and go back to edit your rules. Change the RGB value to the one you want, set "Max diff (Hue 0-255)" to 0, and also set "Max diff (S/V 0-1)" to 0. This will make the rule SUPER PICKY about that RGB value. happy

    Ok, I was playing around with the Heabrean armor I had on a mule, For the BreastPlate, you don't need that 2nd requirement. Best I can tell, Ornament is the belt of finger looking things that goes all the way around the middle. Trim is the little dots at the lower end of these finger looking things (like finger nails or something). On my 4 Heabrean BP's, the Trim was always a lighter shade of the same color the Ornament was. So go with the following:

    Rule 1 = Heabrean BPs
    "Armor Type Similar Color" "Heabrean BP (Ornament)" "203A6D" "20" "1"

    Rule 2 = Heabrean Girths
    "Armor Type Similar Color" "Heabrean Girth (Trim)" "203A6D" "20" "1"

    LoL, they didn't care what color the trim was? why don't they just run around the swamp then and gather red plants for dye? wink (I think it's the swamp where red plants are found...? I've not looked for red before.)

    The rules I had been talking about focused only on the non-dyable parts of Heabrean armor...

    Now I'd suggest making just 1 rule using the Any Slot Color req, and pair it with a String - Name = Heabrean req. Then let the dice role and see what you get. =)

    They do care about it being Heabrean right?

    Nope, they really wanted platemail armor, single slot of that color, but they asked for people to pick up any armor of that color. That's why I was asking for a rule that would pick up any piece of armor where I could just plug in a color I like from vtproperty dump.

    203A6D is Blue, not Red. And if they really want all pieces (aka:coverage) of all types (aka:styles) of armor, then try this:

    Yeah, that should do it. Now you may get some platemail armor where only the belt is red, but unless you make specific rules for each coverage piece of platemail, you'll just have to take your chances. happy

    Also, not sure what helmet and boots you want, there aren't any that say Platemail on them. FYI

    It works great, the only thing is I want to exclude Hauberks and Cuirasses. I've looked at the coverage areas on other peoples' examples, but I just don't understand how it works.

    What does EquipableSlots != mean? Does it pick it up the item or exclude it? Why are these numbers 6,14,30,68,196 not on VI's page for coverage examples? What do they pick up or exclude?

    I figure ES >1 and ES <32767 mean pick up anything between those ranges. So how would I in my rule set it to pick up every platemail piece but a Hauberk and a Cuirass?

    And one last question, what's the deal with the covenant rule in that example? Is that saying to additionally look for covenant like this or not to pick up any covenant at all.

    I know it's a lot, but this certainly isn't intuitive and I'd like to learn. This will help with my tailoring pieces, but I started making epic rules since most of the one's I've seen are too tight.

    I made this one to pick up epics, and used those coverage rules. So it would be helpful to understand them.

    "I want to exclude Hauberks and Cuirasses." The way I have my rules setup, all you have to do is disable the rules specificly for these coverage types.

Well, her website uses the "Coverage" requirement (and so do I), not the "EquipableSlots" requirement, They are very different from each other from what i can tell. I don't yet know what "EquipableSlots" is refering to.

    "What do they pick up or exclude?" I'd have to do some investigative work to figure that out.

Don't! you need to make individual rules for each coverage type if your interested in looting PlateMail with a Black (or any color) Belt. Go download my sample loot profile and see how I did this. This is because the specific "ColorPalette" pertaining to the non-dyeable belt your looking for has a different ID # on each coverage type (this also goes for the other styles of armor, not just platemail).

    "And one last question, what's the deal with the covenant rule in that example?" Not to pick it up, that blurb in front of and after the word Covnant all means "NOT". You can use that entire string and simply replace the word Covnant with something else on other StringMatch requirements to "NOT" loot other things if you like.

    "I made this one to pick up epics, and used those coverage rules. So it would be helpful to understand them." My sample profile also has Epic/Major on both Covnant and non-Covnant rules. Check them out. They're a lot simplier. Think i'm gonna try and catch Mag-nus online and ask what he's doing with the EquipableSlots stuff.... happy

    You know, now you got me scratching my head, you want black platemail, but want to exclude hauberks and curases.... The only thing left in the platemail family with any non-dyeable trim is Girths. Everything else you can just dye black as a whole.

    So is that what your really after? Platemail Girths with Black Belts?

    Yep, looks like the girth is all i need. I kept throwing out the non-black ones forgetting about the trim and thinking it was just a mispick. I hope I kept one somewhere, but I am patient and I have a good spot for platemail hunting.

    I did look at your profile. I will have to change the hue diff and max diff as I left them alone. I was using 2A2A2A instead of 131313, does it exclude all blacks outside of that range or is it smart enough to know those are about the same? I changed it over to yours just in case. Although I like the 2A version color on the new armor types.

    I didn't realize you just dyed any other pieces (gauntlets and sollerets) to match. Haven't dyed much myself. So the 131313 is the color of the black dye then?

    I have more questions, but I can just pm, don't want to monopolize the thread.

    Oh yeah, hehe, 262626 is the lowest darkest black I have ever looted on the belt of any platemail armor (and i have lots of it on all 3 coverage types).

    Why are you looking for 2A2A2A? My extensive research shows the codes go 262626, 2E2E2E, 3B3B3B, 474747 ... I can't remember the rest. I really don't think 2A2A2A exists on platemail belts. And if it did, I seriously doubt you'd be able to tell the difference visually between 2A2A2A AND 262626.


    My rule is looking for anything in the range of 010101 to 262626. (Since 000000 seems to be purple on most things for some reason! hehe)

    I spent a lot of time dialing them all in to grab just over 000000 and just over 262626. (really, it's like 00.1 00.1 00.1 and 26.1 26.1 26.1, hehe).

    I don't know much about colors either, I just picked what looked like a nice black from the mass of black listed on the chart.


    Ok, so I narrowed down the six or seven rules I had to these two. It makes sense in my head, but maybe it's still wrong. I want every black piece of platemail from your body rule and sollerets, gauntlets, armets, and heaumues.

    The Coverage on the body rule is supposed to be a LessThan or Equal, you made it the same as the Extremities rule.

    You can put an additional coverage requirement in the body rule to exclude hauberks by using != (NOT Equal) and the value: 15360

    Have you tried dyeing a complete suit of platemail black yet? do you not like that shade of black this gives you?
    If the shade is not to your liking then I understand using the rules the way you are. But if you like that shade then you can make things a lot easier on yourself by having 1 rule that loots girths based on belt color, and 1 rule that loots everything else by name regardless of color.

    Like in my screen shots. Do you like that shade of black? Those suits were all dyed.

    I don't know how correct that is, but it was the newest guide I could find on the DCS chart.

    It's all about steps for me. I'm going to add the girth rule next, but wanted to make sure I had these right first. It's also the way that I learn.

    There's nothing wrong with dying it, I just want to do it organically. I already found over six pieces in the few hours I've tried these rules, except for the body which was wrong. I picked a color that I like, that may also be dyed. Using these rules, I also picked a color you cannot dye, so that's the reason I'm making it more difficult that it needs to be in this case. In the future, I know I can get whatever color/armor I will like. I didn't want to try tailoring without knowing I could do that.

    Hmm, I'm able to copy past both of those rules into VTCL, my profile and a new blank one. I also swaped VI's editor back in and tested (since i'm using Magnus'), works there too. Try again? Watching where you start/end your selection...

    And i wasn't doing any math in my rules, don't know if i'm 95% accross the board. Was pulling dmg numbers from the next lower wield tier. Like I said "My rules are not very picky about max anything. Use at your own risk!" hehe. As I start filling up on almost perfect weapons, I begin to adjust the rules to trim out the weak stuff. wink

    Yes, if your after a shade of a color that dyeing won't provide, then you have good reason to go through that extra trouble. wink

    Also, now that i think i understand more of what your doing, (using that "OneSimilarColor" requirement), My use of 262626 is only for the non-dyeable trim belt color slots of platemail. That same exact color code is not necessarily found in any of the other color slots of platemail.... nor any of my other color code findings that I mentioned earlier. Those were all focused on just the Belts of platemail. In all the pieces i've looted I don't recall a single time where the belt code matched any of the other codes on the same piece. I beleive the other codes pull from a entirely different collection of colors from those charts. Too bad those charts don't have more info like what slot of what style of what coverage armor they're found on. wink

    Well, I guess that explains why I haven't found anything platemail since using those rules. Every piece was from the other rules I set up. I'll change it back to what I had. It drops like crazy for other armor types, hopefully it will for platemail It's actually a relief to know. I kept going over the rules thinking I messed something up.     @ those having issues with copy/paste with VTCL....

    I think I have discovered what may be going on. I reproduced a failure to paste when I pointed the mouse at the line above the rule name and selected down to the end of the rule.

    It appears that where the copy selection begins is the biggest requirement for a success or failure. Take great care to aim at the line with the rule name and not the line above it nor below it. I also found you don't have to get the entire name, I was able to paste a blank rule name by only selecting from the end of the rule name down to the next rule. So it must be only needing to have a name line (empty or not) followed by a blank line followed by the requirement data.

    I have further found that it does not matter how much garbage you select at the end of the rule, or even if you select two or more complete rules at once, it will always only paste that first complete rule. So as long as you get the ending of that first rule, you should be good. If you stop before the true ending of the rule it will also fail. But at least here, if your in doubt, just select extra stuff from the next rule down since it appears to not matter.

    Cool trick I just implemented for looting the Neftet Temple Keys (there's 4 different ones and each has a 1 week timer):

    I pulled them out to their own sepearte rules (total of 4 rules).
    Changed each of these rules from the normal "Keep" to the "Keep #" type of rule.
    Now every week I simply increment the Keep # by 1. And VTCL won't endlessly try to loot repeat keys when my timer isn't up. Or, if I spent the keys last visit, then I reset the # back down to 1 again.

    This was a huge problem for me on my 2 pocket toons that I always drag behind me everywhere. Now, Me Myself and I can cruz through the temple once a week and I get all 4 keys on all 3 toons with ease. =)

    Might be usable elsewhere, like if you wanted to automate the picking up of Auggy Gems when you run through Bellas.

    First, thanks for making this thread, Picaro.

    Post-Feb. 2012 I am transitioning to VT Classic Looter and I'm really excited about it. I made a bunch of rules, and some of them work fine. In the future I'll be ironing out the ones that don't, maybe with your help, but in the meantime I have some simple questions:

    I came to VT from Alinco. I don't do combat macros. I used the autoloot rules, as well as salvaging. With Alinco, I liked telling it when to load the Ust (according to my settings) and salvage/combine. (I tried autosalvage during peace mode and found it annoying.)

    Basically, having set up VT Classic Looter weapon, armor, salvage rules, now I want to give VT a command to load the Ust and then salvage/combine accordingly. Is this possible? I've looked around and can't find the option or command. Do I hafta use Alinco at the same time?! Alinco cannot understand post-Feb. weapons the way VT (Mag Tools variant) does. I have heavy/light/finesse rules that seem to work ID-wise.

    Thanks; again, I will post actual VT loot rule coding questions ASAP!

    Wow, interesting question. Not sure you can control when it uses the UST, I'll have to play around in the advanced settings later when I get home.
    But you can Pause/Unpause the macro to control when it Loots (since you don't use it for combat). The UST will get used automatically in the Looting process from what I can tell.
    You say you found a setting that makes the UST wait until you enter peacemode? Maybe we can use that in combination with Pause?
    Example:
    Pause during combat
    UnPause in Combat Mode to Loot
    Pause again for either more combat or to process loot
    UnPause in Peace Mode to UST
    Pause rinse/repeat hehe
    ????

    What are your reasons for wanting to contorl USTing seperatly from Looting?

    [Edit] OK, so I was having some noob issues that I'll explain in hopes it'll help somebody else transitioning to VT from Alinco.

    1. "Run Macro" must be toggled to get VT to autoloot and autosalvage. Even if you don't want to ACM. "Enable Looting" option is not enough. Seems obvious now.

    2. I made a bunch of rules for salvage types, but in the editor, I didn't set "action = salvage"; default is "keep", and VT will never load the UST if no rules specify the salvage action. Again, obvious, but easily overlooked coming from Alinco.

    Moral of the story is that VT ain't Alinco with better loot rules that are harder to configure. Heh.

    PICARO: here's my rule for cloaks of level 3+. Super simple, but the "/vt testitem" command reveals that it ain't working:

    ObjectClass = Clothing
    Name matches: cloak
    IconOverlay >= 27702

    My Aetheria rule works using the same 3rd line (IconOverlay >= 27702). The other two lines are straight from the VT Advanced Tips page. I'm therefore stumped.

    not able to test the rule myself yet, but it looks good. If you just added that rule and have not logged out/in since then you need to reload the loot profile on the Profiles Tab of vTank. Just drop the list of loot profiles down and select the same profile you already have loaded. It should generate something in the chat window talking about loading the profile. Then re-test using /vt testitem with a cloak selected that is 3+.

    I dunno. I noticed that my very similar (and functional) Aetheria rule had no ObjectClass line, so I removed that from the Cloak rule, but that didn't help either -- and wouldn't have made much sense anyway.

    I will try just rebuilding the rule or some workaround (EquipableSlots, perhaps). It's frustrating because I have a whole bunch of much more complicated rules working already, like variants on:

    ObjectClass = MeleeWeapon
    WeaponMasteryCategory == 2
    WieldReqAttribute >= 45 (Light Weapons)
    WieldReqValue == 370
    MaxDamage >= 19
    NameMatches: Epee|Rapier

    That one catches multistrike light and finesse swords of a given tier (I intend to enter variance and mods, too).

    Great, thanks, I'll try that.

    Dunno why I did my weapons uppercase (Epee|Rapier), but I'm glad I did. This explains some armor rules problems as well.

    I just realized that the ordering of rules in the list matters, especially since rules for salvage are very inclusive.

    My Cloak rule was below the salvage rules. The reason it didn't work, unlike the Aetheria rule next to it, was because Aetherias are not made of anything.

    This problem was tricky to grasp because I wasn't salvaging all types of materials and not all my non-salvage rules were below salvage.

    Noobs, be forewarned: your salvage rules go last. Everyone else is free to chuckle at my expense.
