We are going for big blue catfish .I'm taking a guides advice and using one pound tilapia filets(thats a big bait)...should be fun anything we catch will be big.They should give me a good ride in my canoe too! I'm really trying to get a 50 lb+ cat for my bucket list.

Do you have any maps of the lake? I found the one for my bucket list laying near a gas pipeline that was on the bottom not far from an incoming water source. The big boys will find the best spots. Good luck!

I'm fishing the islands on lake Houston right by where the San Jacento flows into the lake...it is a well know spot for big blues and where a guide friend told me to go.
Those fishing maps can be a great help,I'll pick up one next month if I can ...I'm spending alot of my extra money on equipment right now...I'm getting a fish finder,drop in fishing lights 2 batteries and a trolling motor and camping supplies so i can go out and stay in the Sam Houston Forest or The Big Thicket.

We didn't stay out long at all we never even hit the lake.She caught a 11 and 14 lb fish and then got cold and wanted to go home...I only got to fish for about 15min and didn't catch anything,most of my time was paddling and setting her up.Oh well I know where a decent hole is now.

Bleh, glad I do out fishing with the guys. Dont have to worry about em crying, its cold lets go, or its raining lets go. Heaven forbid they get wet or cold. I mean its fishing, get real. Next time stay home and let me loose for a day to go out fishing with the guys.
I wouldn't take her again on a cold day. Take a 12 pack, a radio and a guy friend or two and kick back relax and fish with cold beer. Thats a good day.

Your sadly mistaken my friend. I have never heard of them being illegal to take anywhere in the US at all. They just must make the length requirements which is 46-66 inches from tip of tail to the end of the snout. I believe you were misinformed.

Idiot you think California's the only state with Sturgeon?
Further it's only one species of sturgeon you can harvest in Cali. It's illegal in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, And most of the Mississippi river basin.

I was speaking of california when you made your claim that it was illegal, as I stated in my post. And like I said I haven't heard that they were illegal anywhere else. Not that I care because I dont fish anywhere else. /shrug
But my statement stands, sturgeon is way funner to reel in than catfish. Reeling in a sturgeon is where its at. Reeling in a catfish is bleh. Can do it with no skill and have it in less than 5 mins. Try that with a sturgeon and your gonna break your rod, line or be very very sore trying to fight that beast.

A quick DFG check on Oregon regs shows that the legal limit for sturgeon is 5 per year providing they meet the length requirements.

WHITE STURGEON
See the Special Rules for Columbia River,
Snake River, and Tributaries.
Min. size 38" fork length. Max. size 54" fork length. Daily limit 1. Possession limit - 2 daily limits.
Annual limit 5 STURGEON statewide per license year (April 1-March 31). Unless specifically noted
in special rules open only during open game fish or SALMON seasons.
The catch and release only applies to these particular rivers (columbia, snake and tributaries?) which is catch and release. Green sturgeon is a no no. White sturgeon in any other area is fine to take home. If it wasn't it would not have a daily bag/yearly possession limit. You have to now record all your sturgeon catches on a catch card that you must send in after you catch them. If they are tagged its catch and release after you record their identifying information.
Again, I dont know if you've just heard this but per the regs you are wrong my friend. I suggest you read up on your rules and regulations because you obviously aren't.

Doesn't matter what you're talking about if you're going to make a baseless claim and only back it up with 1/49th of the information regarding it then your claim is well.... You guessed it.

We can talk about claims imaloon, you claimed it was illegal in Oregon and Washington to fish for sturgeon... you were wrong because your not reading up on the actual rules and regulations. Your claims are baseless and ignorant. Have you ever read the rules and regulations on sturgeon fishing in any state? By your statements earlier it shows pretty clearly that you haven't. Yet you've said nothing about it. Do you even know where to look? Or were you just too lazy to do a quick google search? Your view on the issue doesn't matter. What does matter are the rules and regs. They point to the contrary of what you were saying for Oregon and Washington. I didnt bother checking Idaho or Mississippi (or any part of it) because your wrong with 2 out of the 4 I can make a strong guess and say you probably didn't check the rules and regs for the other states either.
If I was wrong in saying that sturgeon are better than catfish, that is only opinion. Mine. However my claim about sturgeon being legal is valid and correct based on the rules and regs of the states I mentioned. So where does that leave your claim?

Lol..I've said worse,when we were driving home she started giving me a hard time telling me she was a better fisherman than I was because she caught two fish to my none...I explained I was the fisherman it was,my canoe,my location,my choice of bait,my equipment,I decided the depth we'd fish....Then I told her if she really needed a pat on the back....she was obviously a very good and experienced hooker.If I die in the next couple weeks it wasn't an accident!
