My 13 year old was the last kid in her class to give a presentation on a career she'd like to do. The way they did it was you pretend you've been in the career and are coming back on career day to explain what your career is like to the kids in the middle school.
Some of you may recall that for the last two years she's been interested in being an undertaker/mortician. So that's what she chose as her career for the presentation.
Apparently it was a pretty big hit. After the presentation there is a question and answer session, and her classmates were asking a bunch more questions than they did with any of the other careers.
Question: "Does being a mortician take away time from your family?"
Her answer: "Well that really doesn't apply to me because I just have a good dog" (she asked my husband once if she HAD to get married when she grew up, and when he said no, she sighed with relief and said "Good, because I don't want a companion unless it's a good dog" LOL)
Question: "Do you have to go to college for it?"
Her answer: "Yes you have to have a bachelor's degree" (the kind of degree depends on the state)
Question: "Do you have to wrap the body up like a mummy?"
Her answer: "Sometimes, depending on how they died" (no idea how true this is)
Question: "Do you get hungry on the job?"
Her answer: "Sometimes"
Question: "Why did you choose to be a mortician?"
Her answer: "Because dead people don't talk back" (she has frequently said that she'd like to be a mortician because live people annoy her- so she'd rather work with dead ones)

I worked with one of the top graphic artists in the country who suddenly decided to become a mortician and quit doing graphics. That was 15 ish years ago and as far as I know she is still doing it.
Oh, and she is a red head.

Yeah that career is decent money. Average national salary is over $60k, obviously it depends on where you live but that's the average. For the state we're in it's closer to 70k average salary. Not too shabby.
She's also considering becoming a coroner/medical examiner or forensic artist- she might really like that since she's big into art as well.
She loves animals but has expressed zero desire to work with them (we've suggested that). She just wants to live with them

A buddy of mine invited me too see an autopsy but there's no way I could do it. I've seen dead bodies and stuff before but actually watching someone open up another human being is a little much for me. Kudos to your daughter for wanting to pursue it. We definitely need people in that profession

She gets it from her father lol. He doesn't like dealing with most humans either. It's more that he's...selective, than that he hates all of humanity. She's the same way.
zthar, she is definitely an odd duck, but not in a bad way. Very nice kid, kind and thoughtful and helpful, just listens to the beat of a different drummer than most, that's for sure. She does have something of a morbid streak- that, she gets from her mother.

My second daughter is like this. It actually took me a few years to appreciate her for what she is. She is probably my wife's favorite daughter because of how thoughtful she is but her oddness took me awhile to get used to.
