Is there anything redeeming in SLC that I should go check out while I'm there?

Going in February...

GO to all the locations where they filmed SLC Punk!...and hoist a beer in memory of Heroin Bob, just stay away from Percodan.

I would go skiing at Alta/Snowbird if you are into that sort of thing and you have time. Probably don't have time though do you?

The Browning family liked to collect cars so there's a nice little added feature to the museum.

Not a big skiier/rider...I go now and then though. Better snows here in the Canadian Rockies though. I'm in seminars for 7 days...and I'm flying in and out around that as tightly as possible, so really all I have is evenings.

Find a place called Diamond Lil's Steakhouse and make sure you go there hungry.

Sports: catch a Utah Jazz game

Scenic:
Go see Temple Square at night when it is all lit up and freezing cold in February

Culture:
Go see a Mormon Tabernacle Choir performance.

Go to the Red Iguana. Do it. Don't you dare NOT do it.

Order the Puntas de Filete a la Nortena, but instead of the almond mole, ask for the mole amarillo. Best. Dish. Ever. Has a bit of a kick to it and the flavor is rockin.

Really you can't go wrong no matter what you get there.

It's not tex-mex and it's not "authentic Mexican" either. It's billed as pre-Hispanic and Aztec cuisine. The price is reasonable, and really the food is just amazing.

First time we went there was in 1997 and we grabbed a city guide to SLC for restaurant recommendations. That one had good reviews so we decided to hit it up. When we arrived it was this dinky little hole in the wall place which made us go hmmmm...but we gave it a shot anyway. Oh my. A few years later we moved to SLC and it was a place I regularly went to eat. The original location has gotten so popular that they opened up a second location a couple blocks away so they wouldn't have to turn down customers. It's not a chain- it's the same restaurant, they just have an overflow location lol. If the original restaurant is too busy they'll direct people to the other so they don't have to wait as long.

Here's a bit about them. I really can't say enough in their praise.

Well hell, if I ever end up in Salt Lake City again I'll be finding that place. That's as solid an endorsement as I've seen for a restaurant that wasn't a paid one.

is it any coincidence that it was recently labelled the gayest city in America and you are announcing that you are going there for business?

As a nine year resident of SLC, I can confirm this recommendation. Great stuff.

Since you like beer, try this place too. http://www.squatters.com/ It is real beer and the food is pretty good too. Definitely go to a Jazz game if they are in town. They have an exciting young team that is playing great and the crowd is always awesome. We also have a semi-pro hockey team. They suck but the games are still fun. http://utahgrizzlies.com Have fun.
