I'm contemplating it to get whipped into shape for this upcoming climbing season, anyone have any experience with it?

or is it folly to ask an internet forum if anyone does anything at all physical fitness related...

My niece swears by it. You can youtube some workouts and judge for yourself.

Just from the research I have done and what she has told me, it is great for a few reasons.

1) Gives you quick attainable tough workouts.
2) Caters to every fitness level.
3) Gets harder at the right pace.
4) Mixes things up which is critical to prevent boredom and work different muscle groups.
5) Nice mix of cardio and strengthening.

If I was not paying for the gym, I would love to try it.

Dont worry I will give my opinion anyways.
The PvP MMO is NOT a "niche" market, Mythic is just a "niche" company.

Crossfit is amazing. I started it up, had been in about 4 months, but then had to stop due to unexpected pregnancy and not being fit enough to feel that I could safely continue Crossfit until after the baby is born. A lot of women do it while pregnant but they are all in good enough shape that they can. It's intense enough that as unfit as I am I felt it would be a bigger risk, so for the meantime I'm sticking with things like walking and stationary bikes and stuff.

It's good for all the reasons regulator stated, plus the culture is one of encouragement. Doesn't matter if you're the best or the worst, everyone roots for you especially when you're working to do better than you did the last time. I'm sure there will be a place here or there that is an exception to that rule but for the most part they take that seriously (rooting for everyone), and not in a doofy happy clappy cheerleader kind of way. There were people in my area whose bodies had muscles that would make me drool with envy (but never that horrid muscle-bound look that some lifters get, just an overall omfg wow fit look) and people like me just starting out that were...erm...soft, lol. It just didn't matter. And nearly all of the people who had the bodies to die for started out soft around the edges too, at the very least. They had a ton of before and after pics of different people (many of whom were still going to that particular crossfit gym) and progress pics in between, and yeah it was awesome.

It's pricier than a regular gym membership for sure, but in my opinion it can't be beat, in terms of getting you actually fit overall, and in terms of atmosphere. The fitness part was hugely important to me. I didn't want to just do cardio, although I like to run, and I wanted my whole body to be worked out, not just a few major muscle groups. Crossfit does that and does it well.

mkay off mah soapbox tongue Once I have this baby I plan to start it back up again.

It is- but it's worth it, in my opinion. It's like the difference between a Wal-Mart running shoe and a quality running shoe.

Got some friends that do it - all of them swear by it. I stick with my own gym routine...I'd do Krav on my non-lift days if I wanted to get in hella shape. Why pay to get buff when you can pay to get buff AND learn to kick the crap out of someone?
