Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

What makes Maine a place that non-whites seem to avoid ? 95.2% of Maine's population is white and no other single race including blacks and Hispanics even make up 2% of the population,Thats amazing in today's US. BTW;their crops still get picked, their kids get taken care of and their landscaping still gets done.

Whites mostly avoid it too. Most of the population are people who were born there and never leave.

Maine is cold. Its a lot of wilderness. Not a lot of big cities. Pretty much that in a nutshell. The NE is losing population. People are moving away. I've decided this is my last year in business. I am selling after this season. A much as I love the scenery of MA I don't care for much else of it.

I would consider living in Maine later in life. I've spent some time in Acadia NP, and it is one of my favorite places to visit. Absolutely beautiful. And the seafood is great. I was in a small restaurant on a pier near Bar Harbor once. I asked if I could get a lobster fresh from the trap. They let me watch as some old man pulled the trap from the boat, walked to the back of the restaurant and handed it to the owner. I watched the owner toss that bish in the pot. 30 minutes later I was eating one of the best meals in my life. My only complaint is all the blue berries. Don't get me wrong: I like blueberries, and I eat them almost every morning. But those people put blueberries in everything.

The northeast is too cold, too busy, too expensive and too rude.

You'd be more at home in one of the northern Midwest States. That's where your peoples are anyway. For example Wiki posted: Large numbers of Finnish, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian emigrants came to the Upper Peninsula, especially the Keweenaw Peninsula, to work in the mines, and they stayed on and prospered even after the copper mines closed.

I guess when I look at what I consider paradises I should try to remember I see things differently than most people..I look at a huge house in the city as a prison in hell and a shack in the wilds of Alaska as a estate fit for royalty...Maine looks like a great place to live to me.
