I don't care what the movie is suppose to turn into later, the writing for high school material is clumsy dumb with nothing but cardboard archtypes. Yes there will be bully jocks, nerdy brains, the hot cheerleader, etc. Nothing ever changes with their repetitious cookie cutter script. I tried to watch "I am Number Four" last night with the family and could not get past this part of the plot before getting up and going off to read. Maybe I am growing less patient in my old age, maybe the writing is just getting more dumb. Prolly both.

I have tried to read some of the more popular YA novels and I have a very similar problem with them. The characters are always the exact same stereotypes over and over. I think 93% of YA novels involve the exact same male lead. He is always a smart, athletic, brooding loner who doesn't apply himself to academics or sports. Despite his lack of drive and lazy emo whining he attracts the female lead with how deep and laid back he is. Conversely, the female lead is always a smart, brooding loner who applies herself to her studies but suffers from a crippling lack of self confidence in social situations. Throw in the exact same ensemble cast of supporting characters and I can't stomach the triteness. I also failed to make it through the first 45 minutes of I Am Number Four.

It has that cute blonde from Glee, Dianna Agron. I had to watch it just for her. She is a doll.

The movie with the most famous nude scene of all time is granted an automatic exception to anything that would otherwise rule out watching it.

I can think of a few, but most of them are movies from when I was in High School :P Dazed and Confused gets a pass. The most recent one I can think of that was good was Charlie Bartlett..but I have a huge crush on Kat Dennings.

I think Dazed and Confused is one of the best films ever made. There is something to relate to for everyone in that film.

The audience is the high school crowd. Freaks and geeks though is really good - too bad it was only one season.
