I am not supplying internet outside the room -- I just want my PC, my laptop, and my PS3 to be able to use the net without hiccups -- my old linksys BEFSR is only 2.0 compatible. As it stands my PC is connecting directly but I would like to be able to at least do internet radio into the stereo from my laptop which is not something I can really multitask off my PC well (I have been trying but controlling the volumes to be compatible in every program I use is a real pain). Internet radio tends to be really soft and other programs tend to be loud.

I have never heard of a DOCSIS 3.0 "router".

what most people do is purchase a DOCSIS 3.0 Modem (motorola makes a solid unit, model SB6120) then a separate wireless router (my personal preference is linksys)

In the FUTURE, SMC networks has a DOCSIS 3.0 *GATEWAY*, this is basically a wired/wireless router that has a cable WAN interface. Currently though that device is not available retail and there is no date in the future that I can tell you that it will be.

hope this helps.

EDIT: ok so I looked up your old model and yeah I see what you have there but the only comparable product thats 3.0 compatible is that SMC

I poked around on the reputable sites like newegg and amazon but didnt find them listed, however somebody says they have 10 they are selling on ebay... I would be leery of course

um pretty much all routers are wireless now with just 4 wired ports, unless you get a commercial router with a blade worth of switching ports.
and I think 3.0 is the only format being built anymore.

Just get yourself a router (wired or wireless). If it's wireless, disable it within the config panel. Most will offer you a way to do that.

From there, just connect the router to the modem via the uplink port. Then just run your Cat 5/6 wires to the devices in question.

Lets rephrase then -- what is a decent router that I could get that would work without having the difficulties I had with the old 2.0 modem. IE reliably. I don't want the wireless on because I can feel wireless. It is like a palpable change and after an hour or so I get a headache. Hence I definitely require it to not transmit wirelessly (in essence that feature would be always off -- and I wouldnt want it transmitting even though the thing is hooked up with wires).

Docsis 3.0 on Cisco gear introduced higher data rates, ie. it's faster.

I dont think they make a "non-wireless" routers anymore.
You would have to disable it in the settings.

First of all, DOCSIS 2/3.0 have nothing to do with the router. Those are modem features, and you will need to buy a new modem to get DOCSIS 3.0.

As for non-wireless routers, all home model routers have built-in wireless now. The only options you have are buy one and disable the wireless (very easy to do), or buy a business class router that does not have built-in wireless

Backing up a little further...

Ok comcast sent me a ubee d3.0 which upgraded from my toshiba pcx2600 which was cutting out often since they switched to docsis 3.0.

The ubee d3.0 does not have that cutting out problem...

The router I was using was a linksys befsr41 which is insufficient for the new modem and docsis 3.0.

This means I need to find a new router.

I have been looking around but the reviews etc tend to go by how good the wireless is not how good the wired connections through it are.

I have no interest whatsoever in wireless -- Wireless causes me issues. What I want connected to it is all in one room and I just want to hook it up in a wired manner.

---

So I just want a reliable gigabit router that will handle my computer, my portable, and my ps3 and not drop me in the middle of a game and come back up a few seconds later over and over.

I mean I could just buy a random router that says gigabit on the box, but I would rather make a more informed choice.

I doubt that I need anything super massive (expensive) -- I just need something reliable that will work.

Like others have said, just find a reliable router and simply disable or don't use the wireless portion if you don't need it. The only thing you will want to look for is a router with a Gigabit WAN port (many have 10/100 ports for the WAN, with gigabit only on the LAN switch ports, but with Cable providers supplying newer equipment with gigabit ports on the Ethernet side, newer models are adding Gig to the WAN as well).

Here's a list from newegg, find a well-reviewed one in your budget and go with that one:
