My cat is pretty much a Honey Badger when it comes to commands....but when she's in my room and I say 'treats' she immediately jumps on the bed and looks at me with wide eyes.

My dog doesn't consider himself canine, he's a human stuck in a dog's body. So he understands everything.

We own a bunch of parrots. The only command they really know is 'step up'. We don't train them to do tricks or anything. They don't do anything spectacular other than their normal behavior.

They repeat a lot of things. Our macaw talks quite a bit.

I don't use specific verbal commands, I just let him know what he should do.

Like I pat on the bed, he'll go on the bed. If I yell his name when he's barking, he knows to stop barking. Or to come when I say his name (I use different tones). Tug on his leash means "hurry up and stop sniffing that tree". Put my foot in front of him, he knows to not go outside and sits away from the door. Etc.

He'll recognize any word associated with food though. Cereal, carrot, etc. All is food to him. Also people/other pet names.

So true. The non verbals work wonders. Call his name and tap on the floor with my toe and he knows I dropped something and want it cleaned up. He'll come running, lol.

My dog still kicks your pets ass. Then he kicks the ass of the next 1138 pets in line. Then he takes a break and kicks the asses of however many are left in line.

Sounds like when I grab the can opener. Before I'm even opening cans I have a cat and a dog at my feet like "What the hell is taking you so long". I can pull anything else out of that drawer and they ignore it but somehow they know when the can opener comes out, lol.

LOL it's uncanny how cats/dogs are like that. My cat knows when I'm coming home from work. I call my dad to check up on him and see if he needs anything...my dad says Kitty will come into the living room hearing his phone ring. Then she'll disappear...then about 45-60 seconds before I am at the door and unlocking it, she is at the door waiting for me to walk in. I swear she knows the sound of the car as I pull into the parking spot. I live in an apartment, and there are other cars coming and going, but she only waits at the door when i pull into the parking spot.

Sit, down, come, stay, shake, speak, home (go to cage), car ride, school, walk, out/outside, leave it, drop it, lets go, hug (I crouch and he puts his arms on my shoulders), and "up" (stands up against me or on my lap if I'm sitting).

Gaucho
sit
down
get it (mostly to chase the cat downstairs or off a counter or something)
shark/toy
enough- for barking, although mostly he ignores me
come

And he's good with the sit hand command we give him, plus toe pointing at things he needs to clean up on the ground.
Life would suck without a dog to clean up spills and stuff in the kitchen.
Now if only I could take him for walks without him growling at people and other dogs who walk by on leash... I fail at dogownership. sad

he is so tired after playing all evening when I get home from work, he knows what "go to bed" means

Heidi would fight sleep, but he snuggles up and goes right to sleep.

Sleeps all night too. Might have to get up once to let him pee. (bladder in training *puppy*)

Oh and I forgot, he knows what bad dog means already too.

Trying to get him to learn what "go for a ride" means. happy

When my cat was alive and before it went deaf?

It knew its name, all of the other cats names, all of the humans names, where is "name of cat", slave(blame my mom), upstairs, downstairs, shrimp, steak, milk, chicken, several other food words -- and if you told it steak and gave it chicken it got upset with you.

The "Be careful" command -- whereupon it actually was careful.

bally(get your bally), I don't have it, the name of several tv shows over time(same as downstairs),

I know I am forgetting some of the words. It was a really smart cat.

Oh and if you locked it in a room, it would remember who did it and instead of doing the typical cat response of being happy when let out -- it gave the "I am ignoring you" treatment to whoever put it in the room... And it had to be a door that opened IN -- any door other than the outside door that needed more force to turn that opened out she could manipulate the doorknob and let herself out.

It was also the strangest cat with nests... It would go completely under covers and make the thing almost taut... Any lump would be barely visible.

Plus it was very happy to be belly rubbed... Would even go so far as to fall asleep in your arms if you let it.

when you give him the wait command, do you need to tell him for how long too?

im only asking because we all know that stay means indefinitely, or at least until i say..

but wait?

Wait is more of a command for walking. He gets excited and pulls, and wait means separate things depending on if he's on his leash. On leash it's stop walking and sit down until I say, off leash it's slow down until I catch up. Kind of like a "heel" I guess. I just don't like the word heel.

They know:

Their names
Treat
Din dins
Water (this means one of us is going to turn the tap on for them, they both love drinking out of the tap)
Go to bed (only one of our cats knows this one)
Tiggy (the same cat that goes to bed has a stuffed tiger called Tiggy, we can ask her to go get it)

I think there are a couple of others, but those are the ones i remember.

All these and,

Easy(taking food slowly from hand), spin, up, *bang*(with hand as gun), get your ball, get your toy, get your ducky, wanna go for a walk? (she'll go over and nose her leash, Wanna go for a ride? (She'll run to the back door and spin around excitedly.)
kennel up (jumps up into car)

if I'm sitting on the couch she won't jump up unless I invite her, even if my daughter is telling her to do it. If I'm not in the room she listens to others, or does what she wants if she's alone.

she might even know more that I haven't thought of asking her, the only one I've taught her specifically is play dead, and then mutated it to *bang*.

she learns very quickly, but is also very stubborn about bad habits.

dogs: come, sit, stay, wait, quiet, leave it, no, up, off, down, hug (just murphy), in your bed, out, cookie, let's go, walk, dinner, breakfast, time for your shot, over (as in jump over this), gentle/take it nice (just hans. little fker snaps your fingers off if you don't say gentle before giving him a treat.) and they all know various hand signs and snaps.

cats: get down

they all know their names, obviously. i'm convinced that the dogs know what shake means but they each HATE their feet being touched so they refuse to do it.
