is that I've played it before. I'm not trying to take away from its vast improvements over Oblivion, there are many and they are great. But I can't help but get that bored, wasting-my-life feeling I get when I replay a game. At its core its the same game. Same combat setup, same magic setup (even the same spells), same quest formula.

I really want to enjoy this game, but if it burnt up in my xbox today, I wouldn't lose any sleep (on second thought, I'd actually go to bed at a reasonable time).

The problem is the same problem as with any other TES game. You can do a bunch of stuff but none of it is particularly well done on its own. You can spend 100 hours without exhausting the possibilities of the game but very few of those hours will be spent experiencing really good content.

Agreed. It's Daggerfall on the Fallout 3 engine.

With dragons.

See I haven't really played about of the games in the series, well not in a long long long time. And this is the first game like this I have played on a console in a long long long time. I'm enjoying it a lot!

Prolly has a lot to do with the fact that I haven't had much time to play anything since DAoC too. And this so far is the perfect fix that I need.

I do however often find myself often looking at camp spots thinking damn I wish this was an MMO so I could gnak people here.

I played only a little Oblivion, so Skyrim is pretty much a new experience for me. It is a great game but I could see where you guys are coming from if you have played a few entries.

Reese, I think this is a perfect game for someone like you: interested in the genre but never played an oblivion title before. I don't really even consciously get that bored feeling until I put the controller down, and I realize I haven't been enjoying myself for the last few hours. Its worse too because I like to have tv or an audiobook on in the background and this game doesn't really allow me to multitask because theres so much boring text (its really cool that they put it in, gives the world a lot more depth, but after a while it's just "oh great, PC#507 has something to tell me about a lost amulet in an abandoned cave somewhere. Probably given to him by his dead mother and stolen by his dark-arts practicing book keeper).

spolier: *** Yesterday I came across a Reveler and a dragon flew over head and started breathing fire. The moron was still talking. I didn't even approach him, he came up to me. I know it's probably a game mechanic, I mean Irony and all with him celebrating only to be eaten by a dragon, part of me thought it was pretty cool, Jurassic Park Tyrannosaurus Rex eats you on the john, but most of me raged at the stupidity, "let me kill this thing, stop tangling me up with your stupid talking!"

I think two triggers conflicted, I don't think he should have been eaten.

The mouse lag on the item and map screen is by far the most annoying thing I have ever dealt with in a modern game. Maybe there is a way to tweak the settings but I'm not finding it. I don't understand how the rest of the game is so smooth but the map is such a clusterfuk.

I really like the content. I only play a few days a week though too so maybe that makes a diff. I played Oblivion for maybe 10 hours. As far as Skyrim I wish I could turn up the graphics settings but it's too laggy even on the recommended settings (medium). I've got a quad core HP with plenty of RAM that's a year old but I think the graphics card just sucks.

Sounds like a bad trip.

This is a really accurate description of the issue....it becomes a chore. You do it, it's familiar and you get the next milestone, complete whatever quest, kill a dragon. But it's not.......satisfying. It's repetitive and....not unfinished, but un-finishable.

If the loot was cooler it might help, but most loot is beyond lame and the occasional good weapon or armor doesn't make up for it.

I find you lose sight of an objective and then you just put in an hour or so and as AS said, put down the controller with a general feeling of meh. I will play some more, perhaps complete the main quest but I am giving it a break for now. Right now it's all about Madden 12 (which is pretty mediocre. It's also unrealistic as my Packers defense is stifling.) and SWTOR.

This is also what happens to me in MMORPG's. I'm liking SWTOR but it's only a matter of time. Then again at least SWTOR has a feeling of getting somewhere.

Prices have gone down. You can prolly upgrade and max out your motherboard's PCIe capability without breaking the bank.
