I cant tell the difference.

Same with food. Just not too picky with how things taste. Give me some Top Ramen for dinner and I'll be happy

Go to Wal Mart and get you some Oak Leaf "sweet red". It's cheap and good.

The price of wine bears almost no relationship to its quality. It probably has the weakest relationship of any food product.

Thats what I found. I think that you can get pretty decent drinking wines for a special occassion for less than $20

Now beer is totally different. I can tell the difference with beer

Perhaps I just have bad taste buds

Well you probably do have bad taste buds but that isn't really the issue.

You can get good wine for 3 bucks a bottle and bad wine for 30 bucks a bottle. It's pretty common at those blind taste tests that all the experts will pick the equivalent of the 3 buck chuck over the fancy designer wines. They've sorta stopped doing those tests lately because it's bad for the industry when everyone finds out what a sham most wine pricing is. grin

Most expensive wine I have had tasted absolutely awful to me; I find most of it undrinkably disgusting. I also can't drink champagne without wanting to vomit, it basically tastes like Easter egg coloring.

however, Boone's Farm is not bad.

The wine industry sounds like a corrupt one. I know that in last job the wine stewarts were horrible to deal with. They were so arrogant and hard to deal with

Not corrupt. It's just like most other luxury industries, but moreso. Luxury industries generally have strange pricing structures because the value of the product isn't immediately apparent. For wine the issue is exacerbated because the unrefined ingredients are exceedingly cheap. At least a loius vuitton bag costs *something* in materials costs. Grapes cost practically nothing.

So at least 90% of the price of an average bottle of wine is completely divorced from any sense of objective value. That is going to lead to a lot of divergent pricing strategies and those strategies arn't going to reflect much more than the pricer's ideas about how pricing should work.

Has 2 buck chuck raised his prices to 3 now?

That used to be some damn good wine.

Red wine is very bitter. I wonder why so many people like it.

They dont taste the bitterness of it. Its genetic. Based on the local environment, optimized to find the sweet spot between not detecting all the major poisonous plants, and having too many false positives. Because of our genetic adaptation we get a false positive tasting wine and they do not.

Wine is fickle because each person has a different pallet than the other. What one tastes another might not. Smells are the same as well. A 300$ dollar of wine that is awesome to one person might be comparable to a 2 buck chuck kind of wine for another.

I was gonna laugh too, but I enjoy drinking Oliver's Soft Wine, its like $7 a bottle and tastes good. Super good wine to get for chicks that don't like the strong, bitter taste.

Even wine connosieurs say 2 buck chuck tastes good but its chemically induced - whereas the real wine is not full of such flavor enhancer chemicals.

As far as bitterness, that might be the tannins youre referring to. You have to find one with less tanins.

And red wiine has 12 to 15% alcohol, its not going to go down smooth like a glass of water unless you're extremely accustomed to drinking alcohol.

I have learned that bad wine typically has a harshness and has either been just fermented wrong or it isn't ready yet. I think I could enjoy drinking wine. I've mostly stuck to White Zin's since they were cheap and actually tasted pretty good but I am starting to notice the difference between that and a real good bottle
