http://money.cnn.com/2011/12/29/technology/verizon_convenience_fee/index.htm?source=cnn_bin So if you pay with a debit or credit card, they're going to charge you an extra $2 for the "convenience". You can avoid the charge by paying with a verizon rebate/gift card, one time payment with an e-check, or pay with a home banking account. In other words, they didn't learn from Bank of America's fiasco with the $5 debit fee charge. I wonder if people are going to buy the gift cards using nickels and pennies to retaliate against this lol. It probably won't affect every one of their customers, but I can't see this bringing any new ones.

I'm not sure that's even legal or if it violates their agreement with the credit card companies.
None of the major companies let you charge more for paying with a credit card. They can claim they're only charging more for making single payments with a card, not recurring ones, but I don't really see the difference.

Because people like superior coverage and service. Verizon's only real problem is their greedy pricing practices. They know they are the best option and they know people will put up with their BS.

They are banking (ha, ha) on the fact that it's a lot more hassle for most people to change their cell phone company than to change their bank.

I got a deal from Verizon on a 1-year (right before they did away with them), with the unlimited data plan (right before they did away with them). I'm betting they count on me doing something stupid like quitting over needing to pay with an online banking billpay (which I already do btw), so they can get me to voluntarily give up my grandfathered rate and limitless Gee-bee's. Not happenin'.

Verizon? Superior coverage? Dont know where the heck you get that notion. Out here they suck more than bill clintons hookers. They drop calls like crazy. Out here its either sprint or cingular. But in their defense I have one of their air cards for my laptop thats 4g and I get 35 megs download and 12 megs upload and its all free because its a company laptop I use. Cant argue with free internetz :P

Sprint by definition sucks and will always suck by virtue of the frequencies they're stuck with. They are by definition less able to penetrate hard structures. Verizon is the bomb in most areas. In the course of 1 year I and/or my wife had AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint - about 2 years ago. I got to see them all side by side in various geos. Verizon coverage and stability beat the others hands down.

The difference that they're giving for the justification is that auto-pay members are less likely to be delinquent. Of course, if you're delinquent that's just another fee they get to assess, so the real reason is that they get to withdraw what they want rather than you sending what you want. It could also be different in how the payment is transferred to them - if you do a one-time debit payment and have insufficient funds, the payment probably won't process. If you have auto-pay, it could be that you'll overdraft and the bank will take the hit / assess the fees.

I have literally never dropped a single call ever. I didn't actually believe it was a real thing for the longest time; like, I assumed it was a 1 in a 10,000 glitch. I have never picked up my phone and not been able to make a call either. Unless Verizon does something really ridiculous I will never leave them. I have the cheapest plan possible because it doesn't cost me minutes to call people due to everyone else having Verizon too.

When I renew license plates, etc on line with the county, I have a $2.50 convenience fee per transaction. I will be driving to the Verizon store and paying there. It's 2 minutes away.

I had AT&T but the coverage where I'm at sucks. Then along came my son with a Straight Talk phone. He had unlimited everything and got GREAT reception. I'm now on Straight Talk. Oh ya, the free app lets me hit my wifi, too. lol

Just put a stamp on a check it costs you .44. See my post http://vnboards.ign.com/outpost/b22180/115953871/p1/?7 The govt is letting banks skim 2.35% for and 2.35% for states from our tax dollars. So 5% of the tax revenue is juice to some banks

What an idiotic thing to even suggest. People really dont like this kind of stuff. Punish people who regularly pay their bills? Madness. Raise the fees for people who dont pay their bills on time instead

Here AT&T is the only service that works right (or T-Mobile roaming, but they cancel you after a few months). But the network has serious issues. About 5% of calls connect to the wrong person. Network is down at least an hour a week. Text messages get eaten, then hours later get sent to your phone 3 dozen times each. Sprint and Verizon barely work in town, and don't work at all anywhere else in the county. Coverage hasn't improved for them in years. But AT&T keeps adding towers and trying to work out the problems. We just got 3g in town (from a single tower I think, everything else is still Edge).

The credit card companies are charging 3%. The agreement says the retailer can't add that 3% onto the bill. Thus we get the service fees instead. Would it be better if the company offered a 3% discount for paying in cash?
