Why would it not be 3? There's 3 flower types total. Out of all 3, they're all that flower except 2. So there's 3 flowers. The Qualcomm one is pretty easy too. Drop 1 bulb every 10 floors, once it breaks, go down 1 floor until you find the floor that it doesn't break on. This way 20 bulbs would be enough to find the answer

Is switching floors considered instant and effortless? If so, then you'd only need 7 bulbs. Also, Excel.

I never said you would need all 20. The point is it can be done without going over 20. The # of bulbs you would need would be determined by the height at which they break. There's no way to tell how many you'd use without knowing that number.

Wouldn't the light bulb one be more efficient by halving the floors each time. Start at 50, then 25, then 13, then 7, then 4, then 2, then 1.

No, because if it ends up being between 50 and 25 you're left guessing where to start. With the every 10 floor way, you're guaranteed to have 10 bulbs left over to find where between 10-20 or 20-30, etc it breaks

Huh? You divide each section in half. If it is between 50 and 25 then you try it at 38. No matter where the correct floor is you can figure it out in 7 bulbs.

then you move to 38, then halfway between 50 or 25 depending on if it breaks. Then half way. So like 44, then maybe 41, then 43 That's like 7 bulbs max.

It's a binary search algorithm. Most efficient brute force method if everything is sorted properly.

I'd punch the interviewer in the throat for asking me stupid questions, then point at the pic of his wife on his desk and tell him she had nice hooters before I farted and left.

I would have said Picard because even though he is tough, he doesn't throw his weight around. He always tries to find a mutually beneficial outcome before resorting to ass-kicking.
