I'm looking for a place to just work half time, inspire me with its cultural side and be a jumping off point to adventure. I will keep my tax practice in Los Angeles and work full time, during tax season. However, I can buy property in Texas.

it's small & it's not a real city so you might get claustrophobic quickly.
otherwise, it a good place to get your freak on.

You will LOVE downtown, Mo. It has a Venice Beach vibe only cleaner with much less traffic and MUCH MUCH better food.

I wish I could have stayed.

I have lived in Texas. I have never lived in Austin. I can translate living costs from where I live to 50% less. I can retire easier with those types of costs. I see myself as a guy who works until the day he drops. I have the type of job that can be done that long. After tax season, I will take a trip down there. I will keep two apartments, one in Los Angeles and one in Austin, if I like it. I can buy some property, too. It is wiser to see how the lifestyle experiences, first. Thanks.

I like the keep Austin weird slogan. That has some California essence. It looks like they probably have a vibrant art scene. I also like the University of Texas being right there. Who knows I may have unfinished business in aesthetics. MY other option is Seattle. But, I have been there and done that and parts of Seattle are higher than Los Angeles to live.

It gets hot here, but not humid hot like Texas. Im used to higher energy costs and traffic.

austin had mediocre food when i was there. i didn't eat at any of the trucks, though.

it's a cool city. it's one of the 3 or 4 metro areas that I'd consider settling in after this whole military fiasco.

I haven't been there in over 10 years, but it's one of my favorite cities I visited in the US when I was in the Army. Take some time off out there for a few days and decide for yourself.

But seriously, Austin is kinda like a small, somewhat provincial-feeling California. It's definitely the best place in Texas but it doesn't really measure up to the real thing.

Although in some ways it is probably a more pleasant place precisely because it doesn't have the ambition Cali does.
