Subject: Ding Dong Deathwings Dead

It's been a couple weeks now since the release of Patch 4.3 and the top guilds have already downed the normal modes and are working hard in a race to world first for the heroic kills. How do you like the final encounter of the expansion? Has your guild seen it yet? Even if you haven't, have you watched videos? Is it everything an end boss fight should be? What do you think it's missing, if anything?

Madness of Deathwing is absolutely awful.

We killed him the first week, on the the Thursday after the patch came out. It was reasonably challenging, if only because it's an extremely long fight.

In the platform order we used, the kill was about 12 minutes. The first 10 minutes of the fight are the same thing over and over again... Kill one platform, jump to the next, rinse and repeat for the next 10 minutes. Nothing really changes and that's terrible when the only problems you're having are in the last 30 seconds. Minute changes you make to raid comp or tactics for phase 2 take 10 minutes to test and 10 seconds to fail.

tldr; too long, pretty boring

heh...i had to chuckle at the extremely long fight comment. you've never heard of the boss from ffxi that took like 20 hours to down i'm thinking tongue


expect most raids, bosses, instances etc to become easier though. blizzard wants the raid finder to work and they aren't going to kill it by making content pugs don't have a reasonable chance to clear.

As a healer, my perception is basically a wall of green numbers, spell effects, Prayer of Mending dinging, and sometimes raid warnings. The fight itself is pretty straightforward and simple. I've only done it on raid finder mode, and that's probably the only difficulty I'll try it on considering I don't play the game as much.

It's epic in length, but what exactly we were doing from a story context was completely lost on me. There were tentacle things the DPS were focused on, then another thing, then we jumped around some islands... all in all, I was more bored than entertained.

I enjoyed the Lich King fight and Naxx much more than this one. I will say, for where my real life is right now, I am enjoying the raid finder though. Even a guy like me who can only play the game MAYBE 2 hours at a time can accomplish something.
