And then I remember that I hate the land since Cataclysm. I want the cities back the way they were. I enjoyed leveling before and now I don't. Can anyone else relate?

Cities? What did you do, stand around and wait for the dungeon ques to pop?

In the beginning I did outdoors questing exclusively, toward the end I did the stand around and wait for que thing. Once the game devolved to that for me I knew it was time to quit.

Still lurking here as I am undecided if I want to come back and play the monk. It will probably depend on whether GW2 suits my gaming needs.

I mean like my walk to xroads and then each little hub along the way as I make my way to Thunderbluff to get the flightpath. (and help find Kyle of course on my way!) The whole path I liked. Eventually working my way down to 1k Needles.

That was why my husband quit the game. In an MMO, where persistent world has meaning, my husband says that Blizzard violated that unspoken MMO rule when they "broke" the world and all the "exploration" that goes with it. He was also unhappy with changes at end-game, talents, abilities, etcetera. He would have rolled with those. When they changed the world and added gratuituous phasing/cutscenes... he decided it "smacked too much of RTS" and was done.

I also found it annoying. As someone who enjoyed rolling alts, where half of the fun was the efficient ways I had created to get me through the leveling journey... and those were utterly destroyed.... yes, I can relate.

What's really stupid: I'm playing a game that has one starter zone now, doing the same quests over and over which is <tongue-in-cheek> mildly boring and I still wouldn't come back to WoW. To rephrase the famous quote, hell hath no fury like a former-player scorned. wink

I always liked leveling in instances in WoW.

A friend and I used to do this a lot, make new chars and pretty much level exclusively in dungeons.

I find myself wanting to do it again often. But I don't bother anymore, then "end game" is just too out of whack now that when I think about hitting max level I shudder tongue

If your alliance then the areas outside SW are not horribly changed.

I have leveled six toons to 80, and my last toon is 65 and I am working on getting him to 73 before I can gain my final levels via RAF. All of this in the past three months.

I like playing through the 1-60 stuff more now that I did before; It has somewhat interesting/funny questlines, it is brief and it gets you from point A to B rather fast. It works quite well if you want to level multiple toons without getting too terribly burnt out.

Outland/Northrend need a dose of revision however.

I agree. While some areas still look good, and the new added areas too, some of the old ones were way better before. Darkshore and Westfall with the retarded PERMANENT tornadoes... please... Loch Modan, one of my favorite areas, completely ruined. That stupid crack full of lava in the middle of Barrens. No more Thousand Needles and Great Lift. Very bad.

I'm still mourning Auberdeen. Most of my toons are night elves because, as far as I'm concerned, shadowmeld > all other racials.

Darkshore KILLED leveling for me. someone should be punched in the face for what they did!

i'm and alt-o-holic, and getting the itch to move to another server to get the level ding frequently...then i sit and think that with my latest crop at 35ish, i out level the zones FAR too quickly.

Blizzard screwed the entire game up with Cataclysm. It is quite possibly the most appropriate name an expansion has ever been given.

This.

I have yet to play an MMO that did not start immediately dying out once retarded developers decided it was time for an "overhaul".

AC2 and SWG are two big examples. You simply DO NOT EVER COMPLETELY change the game after retail release. Changing the old zones was the stupidest idea ever. They should have left them alone and just added a LOT more new ones. Instead, they made everything look destroyed because they thought that was somehow interesting.

When I first saw booty bay, I knew I would NEVER go back to the old zones and level new toons.

If GW2 flops my gaming hobby is over.

I actually loved the quest changes in the lower level zones, I enjoyed 1-60 on the toons I've leveled since.

I am not so much annoyed with the changes its just the permanence of the damage. As in, nothing ever gets fixed or completed. Blizzard for all their imagination can never allow stuff to slowly progress except when expansions drop. So then, the damage in Stormwind will always be that extensive, down to the stupid glowing damage, and that fort will never get built in Westfall.

As for the comment about Darkshore, atrocious what they did there, same goes for Westfall.

The real problem is that low level zones are deserted as lvling is fast and most toons prefer to LFG or BG to lvl.

Nostalgia aside, the revamp of the old zones is definitely a big plus for me - it helps me not to get bored.

Some zones are better, WPL and EPL, many unchanged that much, like Arathi and Hillsbrad.

Loch Modan, Westfall, The Barrens, 1k Needles, Darkshore = Absolutely destroyed

The biggest heartbreaker of all...Azshara...yes, it was under utilized, but they turned it into Six Flags.

I spent many hours in Azshara on many toons fishing. I miss it, yeah.

i liked the zone changes at first because it was something different (barely in some zones) but when i fly around these days i too think the changes are pretty stupid. has a cheapened gimmick feel to it. the old zones were more timeless.

however i use dungeon finder almost exclusively on my new toons now and i think i would even if the old zones were unchanged, so it does not affect me all that much.

I haven't played in a while now, but I do remember rolling a new toon to try out the new lowbie zones. Overall I think they did a fairly decent job with it (although it seems not many peeps here agree), and I like that they have a storyline arc in each of them, so you start out with something small, then it gradually makes you explore the zone and you learn more about the story there. They made really good use of phasing here.

Leveling is a lot faster than old school stuff, so it's not like running through STV back and forth anymore.

For example, in Westfall you start out by investigating a murder (poor Old Blanchy!), and eventually you find out that Vanessa Van Cleef is trying to instigate a new rebellion there because some morons killed her dad (which you get to see some generic adventurers kill him in a flashback).

In lower stranglethorn vale, you get to take part in defending against a pirate attack on Booty Bay at the end of the quest chain.

In Badlands you get to see some dragons who are working against Deathwing (and one hilarious quest chain where 3 drunk NPC's give you various versions of how that big valley is created, and punch Deathwing in the face!). Seriously, go do that quest line, it's really funny.

But once you leave the old lands, then Outlands feels so weird, or more of the same old stuff (I'm glad they let you fly at 60 now, instead of waiting till 70). Even Northrend is kind of feeling kind of lonely because most players are either soloing, or they're just doing LFD groups. It does kind of suck not being able to complete some quests because they require 2-5 people to do (or a really overgeared 85 helping you).

This is the basic problem, the zome revamps have excellent content, but they completely blew the leveling curve. There are some excellent quest lines that I can't finish and then you get to Outland...
