We need some new topics! Kicking us off:

How many of you enjoy skiing or snowboarding? Personally I enjoy both, though I've only skid once. I want to ski more so that I can have better control to teach my kids [from what I've heard/read, they can learn to ski well at an earlier age than snowboard] if I ever have any.

I much prefer to snowboard though. I finally invested in a board last season and have only been on it once. I hope to increase that number quite a bit this season. I just hate that the closest "slopes" - and I use that word loosely - are 4-ish hours away.

Never tried modern snowboarding (with bindings/boots). I had a snowboard as a kid, but it just had grip tape on it, and a rope from the tip that you held in your hand.

Learned to ski at age 5 or so. Local hill (J lift and 3 rope tows) had season passes, so we went about 5 times a week.

Have some fine quality Airborne Infantry knees. That combined with the cost of skiing means I do it rarely. I'm incapable of skiing at a rational pace, so I always end up with my knees a wreck and unable to walk for a week.

I used to ski a few times a year when I was in junior high/high school but haven't gotten out in years. I prefer to stay indoors and stay warm in the winter.

I hate snow. Having shoveled it from the time I was 5 years old has made me bitter.

Never been snowboarding or skiing before. I'd like to try it someday I guess, but in general I hate cold weather so I'm probably not likely to seek it out on my own.

In the early 90's I was out inner tubing at Union Creek here in Oregon. I had a bottle of Yukon Jack stuck in the snow up at the top of the run. I was doing a swig every couple of runs so was getting pretty ripped. So this local kid we know shows up with this freshly waxed snow board.

So I end up hopping on it. Just a note: If you have never ridden a snow board. DO NOT try for the first time from the top of a really steep inner tube run. I must of hit 50mph in like 2 seconds. The sound my need made when in pooped after I cartwheeled a couple of times could be heard from the top and the bottom of the run. laugh

But I have no use for going to visit the snow anymore. I love it here in Southern Oregon. It snows a couple of times a year or so and goes away pretty quickly most of the time.

And it must've been a bad wreck if you pooped from it.

i absolutely love snowboarding, relatively new to it but i hope to go multiple times this year. agreed with umlap on the "too effing far away" bit plain

i'm fine having no skiing experience, but i suppose i will at some point

It's not a control issue. Since I only ski every couple years now, I start with a nice bunny hill run or 2. But by the 2nd hour I think I'm an indestructible 9yr old again, and start trying to set a speed record on black-diamond moguls. On those pontoon rental skis.

Must... Go... Faster.....

Edit: I guess it is a control issue. Specifically self-control.

Ok, I will admit that sledding and sledding (snowmobiling) is pretty fun.

I do snowboarding a fair amount when I am in Colorado or in the Northeast. My knee has started giving me problems so I am not sure how long it will last though.

I'm hoping we get at least one big storm this year... we haven't had a good blizzard for a while.

I haven't done either. I like tubing though, does that count? Too bad there's not a lot of snow here and I don't have a big hill to go down like I did when I was a kid.
