Looking to get a new laptop. Bought the wife an inspirion or whatever it's called a few years ago now (2-3 cant remember). We more or less dismantled her desktop PC as she quit using it. Looking to get myself one now as well when we're relaxing on the couch and channel surfing after kids go to bed. It isn't going to have any real demanding requests for it, just the general web surfing and browser games. Was looking at something in the 500$ or so range.

In that case, just about anything will do. I'd just go down to a local store and see what they have. Almost anything can handle web surfing and browser games.

Just stay with the major brands - HP, Dell, Asus and shop around a bit.

Here's one off newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157871

There's a bunch in the 500 $ range though.
