Subject: A weird PC crash has appeared..
Its the oddest thing.. My PC will crash while just browsing the web with what I think is the " video driver has stopped responding " error but instead of recovering my screen will take a random color that was on the webpage and plaster it full screen. It could be a solid color or a blocked solid color.

I can play games for hours on end with no problems at all or have the PC sit at the desktop screen all day and nothing happens but randomly while web browsing the crash will happen. I did some snooping and a found a similar crash someone else was having where the 2D clocks on the card were causing the crash ( I have a 6950 ). It doesnt even have to be a site with heavy flash or graphics as it does it on simple message boards.. I have already put in for an RMA sooo will wait and see what happens.

Anyone else experience anything like this.. ever?

Also what are the chances a sound card could be causing this? I have a Creative XFi Titanium.

Do you have the latest video driver loaded? Browsers these days are using your 3D acceleration.

If you have an nvidia card, and you're using firefox, this is a known bug that nvidia is having a hard time tracking down. There are some fixes suggested, but I just installed chrome and use that now.

I am using Firefox and I have the latest drivers and I also recently tried a reformat to see if that would fix things but it didnt.

I might try chrome and see if maybe firefox is the cause.

I have been using Chrome for awhile now .. Still getting these strange crashes.

BF3 or Skyrim or any game for that matter and no problems at all.. Web Browsing , Netflix , Flash / Java Games and I get these crashes.

I am thinking its a problem with the power save feature AMD cards have.. like its kicking in when it shouldnt or something.

I've had a lot of issues with Firefox + Flash + ATI drivers. ATI drivers will crash even with just a small Flash advertisement on the page.

Kinda frustrating and I haven't had the problem with Chrome.

Flashblock helps, but I'll still get crashes when I load the Flash for a video I want to watch or something.

I haven't had anything as severe as the screen going a solid color though. Typically the ATI*.DLL crashes and restarts and all is back to normal again though.

I am just tired of it.. Just now I played about 3 hours worth of BF3 and Skyrim and then not even 10 minutes into web browsing I get a crash with a grey screen with vertical lines in it and the grey between the lines is a darker color.

I should just buy another card.. Go back to EVGA.
