I knew of one kid when i was younger that was so high strung that he was on medication. But this kid was literally bouncing off the walls hyper if he was not on them. I had never heard of another kid on meds for it for probably 20 years. Kinda sad the scam pharmaceutical companies are running now. Screwing up a lot of kids health pumping that crap into them.

sure big pharma made these drugs but there are plenty of parents and mental health professionals that would rather just write/ask for a prescription than actually try to get to the root of some of these problems

Dont' forget the schools. if a kid is any kind of trouble to teach or control. It's send em to a shrink who talks to them for 30 minutes. Calls it ADD and writes out the prescription. My brother almost had to sue the school because he refused to put his kid on the shit. They told him to put his kid on drugs after a 30 minute evaluation or else they would not let him attend school. Well they lost that one and the boy is 19 now, working a good job and functioning pretty normal.

Well, you have to factor in the people who sell off their [or their kids'] add medication... Those college kids will pay good money for that crap to help pull all-night study sessions before a test.

People who say ADD doesn't exist are just fooling themselves with their anti medicinal campaign~ As a child I was diagnosed with ADD after my parents put me through a weeks worth of various testing~ Though on the flip side I never took the medicine that was given to me to "aid" me with my "disability" I feel that ADD exists, though I'm not a fan of the route doctors are taking in order to temporarily cure this problem, and that's all it is... a temporary solution. As soon as your medicine starts to wear off you're either forced into popping another pill or learning to cope with the fact that you have ADD.
You have so many children and even adults being misdiagnosed with ADD because sadly it has become the new fad~ So many kids now a days are addicted/abusing drugs like ritalian, concerta, etc that it's starting to become a real issue. I decided to visit a doctor (not my primary) to see how easy it would be for me to get a script for ritalan~ My first visit and I was walking out with a 30 pill script~ Physicians are giving this stuff out now a days as if it's candy~ And then you wonder why you have so many children getting hooked on other pills such as percocet, valium, etc etc~

Yes it is real, yes it is over diagnosed, yes the medication is abused and used a crutch for bad parenting and lazy doctors. There is no magic cure all pill no matter what they like to advertise.
There are three basic types of ADD and unfortunately I have all three. And right now, most of my coping techniques aren't working since I am now factoring in three mobile, independent and thinking little creatures into my routine. So just a little stressed with life and for some odd reason thinking of you guys as good therapists...No wait, I don't have ADD, I'm insane!

I had ADD when I was a kid or maybe it was a lot worse when I was a kid. My parents found or determined that it was through food allergies. We never went with the Medication route either. I have to really concentrate some times and other times I am fine. It is funny now when I look at my son he has some of the same tendencies I did. By in large he does rather well but we are working with him and I won't be getting him medicated.

See, I never took meds but I had the highest ASVAB, ACT and SAT scores out of any kid in my high school my junior year and that includes beating seniors. I didn't even study. Mmmm...Adderal?
