That reminds. I think a sufficient amount of time has now passed and the movie has faded from my memory. Perhaps I'm ready to try reading these books now.

That'll teach me not to watch the movie first next time.

books aren't much better :P

in one book they talk about how magic uses the lifeforce of things around you, so it isn't fun and games.

in the next chapter they have the elf girl make a boat and have it float FOREVER by drawing the life of the things below it to power it why? because it's cool!

the whole "don't eat meat because we understand how life is magic so it's okay to kill things by drawing their life out to power magic but it's not ok to eat the meat."

I read the first one. I'm good with stopping there. It's been a while, but I remember book one being fine. Haven't heard anything good about the rest of the books, so I have no interest in reading them.

Book 1 was basically, "This is pretty decent, it is essentially Star Wars with dragons but the kid is so young I can't wait to see what he writes when he gets older".

Book 2 was basically, "This is more of the same, I suppose I will keep reading".

Book 3 was basically, "HOLY GOD HOW IS THIS SO BAD?"

instead of reading eragon you can just enter the pain olympics and cut off your junk in front of the internet. it would be less painful and embarrassing.

I don't even remember much of book 3, it was so bad. I had considered re-reading it before starting on 4 since I can hardly remember any plot development that took place in it, but I don't know if I want to subject myself to that. I figure I'll pick up the 4th book in December because I feel obligated to complete the series.... I don't take pride in it, however.

I got book 4 from the library at the school where I work. It helps to have connections. wink He does a brief summary of the previous 3 books before you start, so you have the chance to hit on the important points before you read the new one. No need to re-read.

Nothing is as bad as the movie was. I can't think of anything... the books are readable imo.

I finished it yesterday, and it was actually pretty good. It didn't have your typical "Everyone lives Happily Ever After" ending, but that was okay. happy

Well, the first book made a sport of ripping off key elements from over half a dozen other narratives. I wouldn't expect any different from the final book.

The first book was star wars with dragons instead of tie fighters and x-wings. Even the swords were red and blue for the bad guys and good guys, respectively.

Before I say anything else, yes. The books are bad.

That being said, I bought and read the fourth one as well. Against my better judgement. The best thing I have to say about it is that it was a pretty fast read.

It's just bad. :/

This is how I go into most books. Apparently it lets me enjoy books that other people feel are awful. Maybe their expectations were just too high? LOL
