I have read your feedback and comments about this year?s BlizzCon, and I have also read the feedback to the apology from Level 90 Elite Tauren Chieftain. I?d like to respond to some of your feedback here.
As president of Blizzard, I take full responsibility for everything that occurs at BlizzCon.
It was shortsighted and insensitive to use the video at all, even in censored form. The language used in the original version, including the slurs and use of sexual orientation as an insult, is not acceptable, period. We realize now that having even an edited version at the show was counter to the standards we try to maintain in our forums and in our games. Doing so was an error in judgment, and we regret it.
The bottom line is we deeply apologize for our mistakes and for hurting or offending anyone. We want you to have fun at our events, and we want everyone to feel welcome. We?re proud to be part of a huge and diverse community, and I am proud that so many aspects of the community are represented within Blizzard itself.
As a leader of Blizzard, and a member of the band, I truly hope you will accept my humblest apology.

I usually turn off BlizzCon at the closing ceremonies. They've always been too crass and vulgar for my tastes. My standards are admittedly higher than most but it surprises me that something they did elicited an apology like this. Extra glad I missed this one and will still be turning it off at this point in the future.

The thing is he didnt call them gay, he called them Homos, which is a bit more derogitory. Having a close friend who is gay and a hardcore gamer, he said some in his group consider using that word the same as calling an African-American person the N-word.
Agree or Disagree with that is your choice. But that is why people are/were up in arms.
It was a joke that didnt turn out as funny as they thought it would. Whatever move on. There are bigger evils in the world than a video game company making a joke that was probably in poor taste but not meant to be a statement about anybody.

My brother is gay (as if that gives me authority to speak on the subject) and while yes he has been subject to teasing and bullying growing up, it is nothing compared to what black people experience in our country less than 100 years ago. Oh boy, i stepped in it. I am not saying it is a good comparison, I was just relaying what someone else sensative to the issue told me. My point was that some felt it was tasteless others could care less. Take it anyway you want.
Personally I thought it was ignorant, but they appologized and I am cool with that. Honestly I would have been happier if I hadnt seen this whole thing.
Edit - oh and i take your gay brother and raise you a black brother in law.

1. I don't see many black people committing suicide because of how they are treated.

Or Blizz's already downtrodden financials (kudos to the first two replies on this thread) if on top of that a worldwide gay boycott of not just Blizzard but Activision was organized? Or, gasp, someone who had actual talent declining to work at Blizzard because of the perceived environment there?
I've seen firsthand the results of environments which are even subtly biased against this group or that, over the last 35 years in the work force. It does a lot more damage than you think, not just to the individual, but also to the productivity of the business and its ability to focus on its customers instead of internal friction. This is real, people, not just political correctness crap. I truly hope the generation entering the workforce now achieves what mine aspired to.

It is one thing to have an individual at Blizzard say something they think is funny.

Taking responsibility for the 'poor judgement' and issuing an apology is necessary damage-control. Hopefully they look into the cause of the oversight that prompted it.

The simple fact that this thread has degenerated into raging against death metal instead of anti-sexual-preference (and in poor taste) jokes, just goes to show that people love to jump on anything they can that they don't agree with and beat it into the ground.
