Our tmobile contract ends in December. Our time with tmobile has been abysmal as far as tech is concerned, though customer service has been spot on. We left verizon because they had atrocious customer support, to the point of harassing, lying, and other aggressive negative points. We're looking at Sprint now. We've not owned a smartphone for either of us yet, so pretty uneducated as to what's good to shop for, what's good for what, etc. The sprint plan we were looking at is 129$ monthly for 1500 minutes/unlimited text/unlimited data. I didn't see anything from the other providers that were that close in price? Seemed like you pay more upfront for the phone @ sprint maybe.

That the two line plan with free mobile to mobile? You could save $30 if you don't need the free mobile to mobile (if 1500 minutes is enough to cover the two lines).

If you want 4G data service, Sprint pretty much fubared their 4G rollout epicly in my opinion. They adopted WiMax technology for 4G data. But pretty much no other carriers use this. And the company that is rolling out WiMax for Sprint (Sprint owns or partially owns them) has run out of money, stalling the upgrades, and network congestion is a problem in areas. So now Sprint is giving up on WiMax and is will begin an aggressive LTE rollout in 2012.

The good side is Sprint did start rolling out WiMax pretty early and it's available in many locations. And Sprint doesn't throttle their data (everyone else throttles their unlimited plans after 2 to 5GB of usage). And Sprint will continue to support WiMax for at least 2 more years.

I think Sprint has gotten rid of their instant rebates, so you might be right about paying more upfront. But I believe if you go to a third party like Best Buy, they usually do give you the instant rebates (instead of mail in rebates).

You helped me out with my wifes dell laptop awhile back, sent a new battery charger that fixed our issue - cant log in to the old vn name since i built this PC.

We live in NW Florida, and we don't have 4g access here, and doubt we'll any time soon. Tmobile JUST got 3g access not even a few months ago and it was an incredible surprise when that happened. We don't really need anything fancy. She wants it to play music from a playlist/grooveshark when she's at work and do some social media stuff. Just the basic things. At the same time, I don't want to get her/us phones that are going to be severely antiquated the passing of one year.

Right now we have those samsung gravity 2's.

If you are looking at Sprint then you can also take a look at Boost Mobile prepaid phones and save yourself some money.. Boost has some nice phones to boot.

And if you're gonna look at Boost Mobile, might as well check out Virgin Mobile.
They use the Sprint network and have individual plans like 1200 minutes with unlimited text and data for $45.

I have a prepaid that I have on a recurring $15 / month "plan" for 300 minutes (with rollover) and couldn't be happier. Screw all of these contracts for ridiculous amounts IMO. I realize that some people just have to live on their phone with facebook / words with friends, but I'm just not going to shell out nearly a grand a year for that.

The mobile to mobile is good for just the fact that my wife and I use the hell out of it. You could create one plan just for those minutes alone. Not counting that, we still have the shared 1500 mins a month which we usually use 1100-1300 of. Having the extra minutes though has been nice the few times we have gotten close to going over. Neither of us could ever get by with a plan as small as 300 mins a month. With kids and constant errands and things being forgotten and one of us needing to call the other to pick something up or bring something the kids left @ home. Her parents are very chatty, and my father is remodeling several of his rentals so Im constantly back and forth helping with that.

We're looking to still be cheap but after looking at the plans boost/virgin offer I don't think we could get away with it. It's much easier to do a phone plan when it's just you to worry about lol. We're also looking at adding our oldest on a line with only emergency/parent numbers stored as she's growing and starting to do more things, but that's still being discusses.

I personally havent had a land line since 1999 and she hasn't had one now for 7 year, I may need to look in to one now and see about some of these cheaper family/individual plans.

I still have a landline because I have to climb a palm tree to get good cell reception at my house.
