if you were to buy a gaming cpu/mobo what would you choose. not the most uber expensive, but something pretty nice, able to run anything on the horizon on max/hi def.
the last two ive gotten have been great but it always seems i get it just a bit wrong. any advice here from you pro's would be awesome.

thanks.

AMD FX-8150 with an AM3+ board....... laugh just kidding.

An ASUS P8Z68 series board (there are several depending on the features and money you want to spend).
And a Core i5-2400 or 2500 if you want a quad core or i3-2100 or 2120 if you want a dual core.
If you are not using a discrete graphics card, then I'd spend a little more for the i3-2125 if going dual core.

I would definitely go quad core if it's available for the budget. But for a lot of games, a good dual core is still very capable (and a lot better than someone's 8 cores). happy

i5 2400 is fine, but the 2500k can give you a lot of extra leg room due to its unlocked multipliers for overclocking.

I've seen these as low as $299, and while its not 30" its close, and its not $1,000. I had a 28" hanns g before it went out and I bought this one, and I've been very happy with it. The only thing I've noted that it does poorly is red text on a black background.

While I was waiting for it to come in I gamed on a 20" monitor and it was a pathetic excuse for gaming IMO happy

I really have to throw my weight behind Asus' displays. Their customer support is great, (Free advanced replacement RMA) and the picture quality is aces too.

wow that is crazy cheap. i think i paid more for my 23 than that. do you think my gtx 560 ti will run that ok, for most gaming, or will i then have to upgrade that. after ive upgraded to the new cpu and motherboard that i listed above (actually that Ravy listed for me)

I really wish i could test these monitors out before i try em. that just seems too good of a deal.

thanks

Honestly, buy it with full confidence. You won't need an upgraded GPU for that resolution. I push 1920x1200 just fine with my 560 TI.

Most 23 inch monitors are 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. So this 27 inch monitor would not require any extra graphics power (resolution, not size is what determines how hard the graphics card is pushed).

30 inch monitors are so pricey, no for the size, but the 2560x1600 resolution. 4+ million pretty little pixels.

Well, that and the type of panel. This is a TN instead of an IPS / S-IPS of some kind. At the end of the day, I can't afford 1.2k - 1.5k for a 30" monitor so this is a happy compromise.

My old hanns g was definitely a bit off when it came to colors, and it created heat like no ones business. Thankfully this does not put out near the same amount of heat.

will the 27 look washed out at all, since im used to the same res on a smaller screen? I hadnt thought of that, how would it effect gaming. Im a bit of a graphic Nazi.

I play on a 25.5 at @ 1080p and I have no complaints. YMMV, but I doubt you'll have a problem.

These large cheap monitors use TN panels. They are great for twitch gaming because of their very fast response rates. But their contrast (washed out look), color quality, and viewing angles are inferior to other panel technologies.

IPS panels on the other hand have the slowest response rates, though these days I don't think you'll see any lag with even IPS monitors now (never seen any with either of mine). IPS has the best contrast, color quality, and viewing angles.

Naturally though, quality costs more. IPS monitors generally cost twice as much as TN monitors. And you also don't normally see smaller resolutions put onto bigger screens like TN monitors. So you may not find a 1080P IPS panel in a 27 inch screen.

1920x1200 24 inch Dell U2410 for example (a highly recommended IPS monitor) will cost about $500.
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2410-Performance-DisplayPort/dp/B00302DNZ4

A 27 inch Dell IPS goes for $1,000, and their latest 30 inch is $1,500.

Actually the monitor I linked is pretty good in terms of color reproduction and contrast in comparison to the hanns g I owned (where with it, it was obvious a tradeoff was being made).
