Subject: Amazon Prime and Netflix both announce new content deals.
Amazon Prime signed a deal with Fox to get 2,000 movies and TV shows to add to it's streaming service. Movies like Office Space, Doctor Dolittle, and Speed and TV shows like The X-Files, 24, The Wonder Years, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

This brings Amazon's streaming content up to 11,000 movies and shows, still less than half of what Netflix has. But catching up. Unfortunately no mention of when this would be available.

Netflix signed a deal with Dreamworks. Which would presumably include Shrek, Madagascar, and a lot of other good Dreamworks movies. And this is a pretty big deal because Dreamworks turned down HBO to come to Netflix instead. The big catch though is this content doesn't come until 2013 (and as we all know the world is ending in December of 2012).

Is that the same amazon Prime that costs $79/year and gives you free 2-day shipping?
If movie streaming is included in the package, that would be a very very cheap and seductive offer.

I know the Dreamworks/Netflix deal has been in the making for a while. Which is cool I guess. I like some Dreamworks stuff.

Yeah, I love a lot of Dreamworks movies. So it's exciting. Just such a buzzkill (is it okay to still use that word this decade?) that it won't be added until 2013. sad

Don't let it fool you. You will still need to purchase/rent everything you view. It can be ~$1 an episode if I recall correctly.

Amazon has two different video services. There is the video rentals you are mentioning, which has about 100,000+ items in it and is available to everyone. Then there is the Prime Instant Videos, which has about 11,000 items in it and available for free to all Amazon Prime subscribers. Need to be sure to click the "Prime Instant Videos" section to see what's free to Prime subscribers.

Hmmmm, I swear I was in the Prime section when I was browsing.

Alas, my Prime expired 2 days ago. I may re-up since it is still 50% off with a .edu address.

It was free for me last year =(
