Pre-order is fine. Just don't purchase any of those lifetime subscriptions, if they have them. They are for suckers. tongue

Actually Lifetime subscriptions are even more of a sucker mover for the developer. They lose long term income that can be used for development for a big hit up front and less down the road.

I used to follow that game long time ago, so maybe I'm behind. So for all of you who know more - is it in any way different than the normal MMORPG game? They do have the 3 typical roles of tank/dps/healer... loot and raids, etc.. anything new and interesting that would make me want to get it?

Nothing new, same old MMO stuff. Actually from what I can gather it's more like a BioWare RPG that your friends can play with you. Lots of instancing.

It depends on the game and how long you play it. Judging by the number of players who can't tear themselves away from WoW a lifetime subscription for that game 7 years ago would have been remarkably good value for a great many people.

I certainly don't regret my two lifetime LoTRO subscriptions, they've saved me a lot of money over the last few years.

the only thing they've done different is added all the voice acting. which you will start to regularly skip because you're so fking sick of being on whatever planet you're on and you just want to level and get to a new planet that you will become sick of not even half way through it's quests too. boring game is boring.

One for WoW would have been great, I do agree. Too bad another WoW most games are not.

I bought a "lifetime" subscription for Hellgate: London.

They are "ZOMG BUY THIS NOW LIMITED TIME ONLY!" scams IMO. At the point I bought it, it seemed like it was going to be a great game. I was only 70% or so through the first play through, looked at how much I'd played Diablo 2 and said "Why not!"

I get to the 2nd play through and its nowhere near as fun, then the game pretty much dies. Then the cherry on top of the crapcake is that it was sold and it is now "freemium" and you have to buy the acts beyond the first two etc.

I played it for all of 5 minutes with the "relaunch", remembered how HORRIBLE the mouse control was (game needs 50%+ on the mouse setting which works very poorly with high dpi mice or it just doesnt track. If you do set your mouse to low sensitivity and bump the in game, menus are very slow to move through).

Borderlands was what Hellgate: London should have been. I'd buy a Borderlands style Hellgate game in a heartbeat.

Blah, I am torn on this subject. There are some games that this could be a good deal. I purchased the Star Trek lifetime and my buddy is enjoying the heck out of it. There are some games that you can buy the lifetime and its great, until the first expansion, when they say you can keep playing for free, but if you want to play the expansion you have to pay the $15. Then there are games like Hellgate where it just was never worth it.

It's a dice roll and the dev's get to decide if they want to load the dice or not...

I won't buy SW-ToR. Shortly after the announcement, I thought: DAMN, at last a SW-Game with a good PvP! And now? It's just as bad as WoW.. even the WAR-PvP is better built. No thx, sir. sad
