Subject: Microsoft has lost $5.5 billion on Bing.
Microsoft has been spending a lot of money to get into the search business. Since launching in 2009, Bing has already lost Microsoft $5.5 billion. And if you add in Microsoft online services since 2007, the total is $9 billion.

While Microsoft's search share has been increasing, Google's share has stayed about the same. Most of Microsoft's gains come from declining Yahoo, which happens to be Microsoft's partner and uses Bing search for it's website. Ask and AOL also have been dropping thanks to Bing.

Microsoft is optimistic it can make money off this though. They say they won't out Google Google, but will just change how people search. Such as going away from noun based "caveman speak" search to more natural human like searched.

Microsoft has a proud tradition of throwing away money on something, purchasing entities, and leveraging their market status until they own a market. Something tells me they're going to lose against Google.

Even fairly small pieces of the search market are worth quite a few dollars. They don't have to win against Google to win in stock value, just do well enough to make a good profit.

google finds what I want on the first try 9 times out of 10

Here's an example:

Google:

Bing:

I dunno... I prefer google and unless google goes out of business I don't see that changing anytime soon.

That is one hell of a claim.
