Alright, dodge and parry share the same diminishing return so for maximum effectiveness you want to keep them even. However...how do you take into account items, enchats and abilities that affect dodge or parry?

For example the enchant Windwalk sometimes may increase dodge or the Moonwell Phial that increases dodge when used. Is it better to gear with lower dodge and allow these things to make up the difference? Or is it better to always keep dodge and parry even for an across the board diminshing returns? Or is it better to take into account all the little extras even though they may not proc or have a CD?

Curious....I've been playing with both of these set ups. And haven't found a deal break for one or the other. I have tow pallies and one's sitting even and one uses items etc to boost her dodge. For the times those are up her dodge and parry are even but when they're not, her parry is the higher stat.

So other tanks, what have you discovered, prefer, have any input to offer, etc?

If you get dodge (or parry) RATING from trinket procs/activations or enchants, they are affected by the diminishing returns.
What isn't affected is straight dodge value you can get from e.g. the swordbreaking/swordshattering runes for a DK.
But anything giving RATING (insisting on RATING hehe) is affected by diminishing returns.
So yeah, if you have a lot of stuff giving you dodge RATING increases on proc/activation/whatever, you may want to focus more on parry when you gem.

I googled this (sorta) last night and everything said to keep them even through reforging, don't go below 10% and push mastery as high as possible while still maintaining hit/exp caps.

I flipped my spec around to the above and the damage I absorb now is beautiful.

Meant gear instead of spec.

The point I was trying to make is the 10%. I guess keeping them as low as possible gives you the least diminishing returns when procs are running. While having block as high as possible is simply a win for mitigation.

don't go below 10% on what? And hit / exp aren't as important anymore due to threat changes. Although I am keeping my hit up even though exp is the #1 threat stat (or was last week) since if I understand correctly all pally abilities that interupt are hit based.

Aaaah ok. It's time to do a little switching then.

The only paladin ability that interupts that can miss is Avenger's Shield, and Hit/Exp are still useless stats unless you are a DK, don't even bother reforging into them. Just go for Mastery. Reforge the higher of your dodge or parry into it, if at all possible on an item.

He was referring to 10% Dodge/Parry by the way.

I was under the understanding that Rebuke and Hammer of Justice where affected by hit? While Hamemr of Justice is a "stun" it will interupt a cast that is interuptable even on a mob that's immune to stun so I used it as an interupt quite often.

They took interupts like Rebuke off hit, and are 100% chance to land, HoJ I think is Hit, and Avenger's Shield, but still not worth reforging, gemming or enchanting for hit.

I don't reforge for hit. With the current gear sets I have on both pallies atm the only thing I have reforged into is dodge and mastery, seems I have a ton of parry gear.

Are you asking if you should gear your passive stats based around your proc'd stats? Or perhaps you never thought of it like that?

Simply put proc'd stats aren't 100% uptime, and in most cases less than 20% (closer to 10% if that), so accounting for them in your overall stat choices is pointless. They are a once-in-a-while perk that, especially in the case of trinkets or even engineering tinkers (though they usually have more reasonable cooldowns), are usually best macro'd to your "Oh Sh**" abilities, like Shield Wall, or left in their own hotkey/binding when you know a big hit is coming, or even macro'd to an ability with a similar cooldown.

In essence, you just wanna ignore them when gearing/gemming/reforging, unless you are really REALLY close to the cap, which I honestly don't know is possible or not at current gear levels since I haven't played hardcore in a couple of months. Summer has that effect on my WoW knowledge.
