[Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Note Smartphone]

Normally I'd just stick this announcement into The Tablet Thread, but these are actually pretty impressive sound.

Samsung has announced a 7.7 inch Galaxy Tab and a 5.3 inch Galaxy Note smartphone with S Pen stylus.

Both share some similar specs...

* 1280x800 Super AMOLED Plus displays
* 1.4GHz Exynos dual core
* micro SD
* micro USB
* very thin

The Galaxy Note also has an 8MP rear and 2MP front cameras and an S Pen stylus. And this is actually a smartphone at 5.3 inches with a 1280x800 res Super AMOLED Plus display. Wowzers. I think I'm in love. But it has Android 2.3 on it and I'm not sure when it will release or who is getting it.

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 fixes the two big complaints I have with it's bigger 8.9 and 10.1 inch brothers. It has a micro SD slot and a much better 1.4GHz Exynos processor. I'm still baffled why there was no micro SD in the larger versions, prototypes even had it. But earlier versions of Honeycomb only officially supported Tegra 2, so I can kinda understand why they had to use that then. Fortunately Android 3.2 includes more processor support, so now we are seeing more variety.

And seeing Super AMOLED Plus displays on two devices this size is really exciting. I love the Super AMOLED display on my original Galaxy S phone and the Super AMOLED Plus is suppose to improve on color quality.

No release dates or prices on either that I noticed. Though Q4 or Q1 2012 was mentioned. So I'm hoping by the time it's released it'll have Android 4.0 on both.

[Toshiba Excite]

Samsung may no longer be the thinnest tablet in the market soon. It's pretty crazy, Toshiba's AT100 (aka Thrive) was one of the thickest tablet, now the AT200 (the Excite) is only 7.7mm, that's almost a full mm thinner than the 8.6mm Galaxy Tab 10.1. At 558 grams it's also the lighter than the Samsung GT10.1.

Typical 1280x800 display (not sure if it's IPS). Has an TI OMAP 1.2GHz processor. Micro USB, micro SD, and micro HDMI ports. Battery size isn't mentioned. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 managed to have very good battery life despite it's thin and light size, hopefully Toshiba didn't sacrifice battery size for thinnest.

They mention a Q4 launch for Europe, no ETA for North America.

[ViewSonic Viewpad 10Pro, Viewpad 7x, and Viewpad 7e]

Three Viewpads from Viewsonic.
The Viewpad 10Pro is a Windows 7 tablet that runs a virtual Android 2.3 OS.
The Viewpad 7x is an Android 3.2 tablet.
And the ViewPad 7e is a budget 4:3 aspect ratio tablet.

Nothing too exciting though.

[Lenovo Ideapad A1]

This is a budget 7 inch tablet that actually looks pretty good.

* 7 inch 1024x600
* A8 single core processor (no details on clock speed yet)
* Android 2.3 Gingerbread
* micro SD and full size SD slots
* micro USB

8GB for $200 (not launching in the US for some reason)
16GB for $250
32GB for $300

Curious why they have both a full size and micro sized SD slots, but I'm not complaining. Looks pretty nice, just a shame we aren't getting the 8GB version.
