[moved from Game Console General]

Ok, so last night I was on World of Warcraft, late into the hr.... as I'm playing computer locks up, with screen frozen (picture of WoW)

I think nothing of it, just figured it was a crash, so I hold my power button in to shut it down for the late night.

However, this morning my computer goes through its boot phase, I get the windows logo and the little load bar under it, I get all the way to just before you get to the User select screen, then I get a black screen with an hour glass, yet it doesn't go past that to the user select screen. (Windows Xp btw)

Any idea? Video card?

Thank you so much.

Have you tried initially booting up in safe mode to see if that clears the problem?

Just tried that, got black screen with safe mode in all corners, MS OS info at top, pointer in middle of screen not movable. It doesn't go onto the desktop, nor user select screen.

corrupted OS? reinstall ready set go?

if the os did get corrupted you have to ask yourself how or why? possible harddrive issues? adequate power? aka power supply not allowing full bootup. could be many things. try booting without your vidcard in.

If you have an error installing the OS, remove all but 1 stick of RAM and try again....If it does it again, try a LINUX LiveCD to see if the system will boot correctly with it.

Personally, I would have tossed the HD into another working SYStem and run ""ChkDsk F"" as well as scanned it for an infection..
