Subject: Hero Template, need some pointers.
I cranked this out fairly quick and it seems relatively solid. I already know it's not capped on block% or style damage and that it could use more Quickness. Can anyone tell me how to fix any one or all of those problems? Without naming Apoc Shield?

there are two decent shields from cata with block %, you may have to rework a lot of the rest of your template to fit them in. i wouldnt worry about style damage being capped.

edit: if i remember correctly the shields have a decent amount more utility then apoc, i only liked the apoc shield for my warrior so i could switch between 1h and 2h.

If you mean the Mid shield (Sentient) with 10% block it's utility is trash, though I guess it would allow me to ditch the Astralist ring and recover some utility there. I'll see what the switch gets me, aside from better block% and worse parry%.
If you mean the Hib shiled with 4% block and 3% parry (Lifeless dreams?) it's almost as bad, though it does pair nicely with the Astralist ring. I considered it up until I needed the utility of the crafted shield.
Both of them have fugly models.

Those are the two best Catacombs large shields.

compared to apoc i remember them having better utility. i took a closer look at the template. you are going to have to give up utility to get more block.

If you consider standard utility+Toa and Catacombs bonuses, the three of them are remarkably similar in overall utility. The flaw to the Sentient (especially given I'm already overcap on this) is that it adds to Str cap. The flaw to Lifeless Dreams is that it adds to Reactionary Style damage, which is nice and all, but not where I want 20% of my utility tied up.

<edit> Just played around with using the Sentient. I can make a template with better Guard ability, but it loses on personal defense on DPS. I'm not sure I'd call it an upgrade, and damned sure I'd rather buy a crafted shield than farm a Sentient and possibly it's replacement.

lifeless dreams is the one i remember using because of how easy it was to get. i went through shields too fast on my keep characters to use apoc or even sentient. apoc was actually easier for me to get after i got my theurgists to complement jup or mplode.

a good solution might be to make a template you can switch up. stick a bunch of resists on the shield you wont need for keeps and swap it out for lifeless and cap block when you do keeps.

I'm in the process of reworking my Arms template to have the dragon shield (heal reactive).
If I can get everything how I want it, I'll have 4 of the Sentient Tower Shields for sale.
I'll probably be willing to let them go for fairly cheap, being I won't need them anymore.


Note: They are all still 100% Con/Dur.


I'll let you know, been cracking away at this arms temp for a couple of days now.

Dragon shields are reactive, I'm fairly sure. They're nice and cheap to replace, but aren't all that spectacular, otherwise. Apoc/Sentient are the best for templating because the other options with %block are relatively low utility, and you have to spend 2 high utility item slots on 2 low utility items. Sentient is relatively cheap to acquire.

I don't think heavy tanks would be killable by mobs if they did.
