What MMO are you looking forward that is coming out soon?

Diablo 3 isn't a MMO.

I'm not, really.

Been playing MMO's for a while and I don't seem to get excited by them anymore, unless they're tried and true.

I'm almost certainly gonna buy SW:TOR, since playing through a Bioware game will be great (and the gameplay videos confirm this), but the game I'm waiting for is Guild Wars 2. It's the game which seems to want to be really innovative.

I'll try SW:TOR. Other than that, nothing as far as MMOs.

The only other thing I've seen that interested me was TES V: Skyrim, but it's not an mmo. happy

None, they all WoW clones with different graphics. Leveling, grindind, mining, raids and battlegrounds. So i stick to the "real" thing since i invested so much time in it. Until some mmo truely tries something new and different not just variants of established mechanics.

The Old Republic, definitely. I have heard about another EQ game, that might be interesting. Guild Wars 2 looks interesting as well, but I'm not sure if that's really a MMO. Also, whatever "Titan" from Blizzard turns out to be.

I'm in MMO limbo for the most part. Been playing since the days of Legends of Kesmai and Dragon's Gate on AOL. I've absolutely outgrown what is being offered as state of the art or innovative now a days. Yet, I still yearn to be impressed. I will continue to try new stuff out and hope something jumps out at me, however, because the hunt is part of the fun.

None of the ones coming out "soon" excite me even a little. And the ones that are later than "soon" don't do it for me either.

Maybe "titan" will be worthwhile, but it's probably 2 years from an actual name and announcement.

Planetside 2 could be cool, but, still a "meh" title for me.

Hockey Season is my next "massively multiplayer" endeavor.

The one that doesn't have the same formula that the entire current crop uses. Namely:
  1. level up
  2. spend points as you level to "customize" (lol) your character
  3. grind [stat/faction/money/etc.] to gain arbitrarily delayed rewards
  4. repeat steps 1-3
  5. [optional] participate in canned PVP with a tiny, limited population, in a "balanced" (lol) class mechanic
I'm sure one will arrive someday but nothing I'm seeing now breaks the mold. Also, I'm not looking at MMO-FPS games at all.

Why would it? That's how every MMO since the beginning has been. It's not really an MMO at that point if it doesn't have at least most of these things.

SW:TOR, GW2, next Blizzard MMORPG are ones I'll give a try. What I'm really looking for I haven't heard of yet. It will be that next new thing that I only found out about because you can't go anywhere without reading how cool it will be. I don't know if it will fit into the MMORPG category or be some new MMO...thing/combination. Otherwise I think I'm done with the current model after trying those 3 I listed.

Exactly my point. There are some that diverge from The Plan(tm) (The Sims is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head) but there's no reason someone can't come up with a better idea. I'll grant you that you'll probably still see leveling/experience that affects character capabilities but the railroaded questing and "Do activity X a bajillion times to advance" mechanics have plenty of room for creative rethinking.

Guild Wars 2, maybe. Won't buy it until I can try it for free.

And a very slight maybe for SW TOR, once I can try it for free, but it looks like that game is going to tank badly, so not getting my hopes up.

Go watch Gameplay, Arena Net isn't hiding anything about the game, plenty of official and unoffical videos up.

They'll be showcasing the game again at Gamescon in a couple of weeks.

New stuff that will be added for Gamescon:

Seven professions – Play all seven professions that we’ve revealed so far: engineer, thief, guardian, necromancer, ranger, warrior, and elementalist.
Charr starter experience – For the first time, you can forge your destiny as a member of the Iron, Ash, or Blood Legion in our charr starter area. You can also choose to play the human and norn starting experience as well.
Mid level demo – As always, we’ve prepared a higher level demo experience for players who want a challenge. Face powerful Orrian enemies on land, engage them in battle underwater and face off against a new boss.
Sylvari and asura – Did I mention that you’ll be playing sylvari and asura characters for this high level content? Yes, for the first time, players will be able to get their hands on these unique races – believe me, they are impressive!
Character appearance customization – Also for the first time, you’ll be able to play around with our character appearance customization feature and control the way your character looks.
PvP – Last but certainly not least, we’re premiering Guild Wars 2 Player vs Player (PvP) at gamescom! Swing by the ESL booth and head to the Guild Wars 2 area to get your exclusive hands-on PvP experience. Also check out our periodic exhibition matches that pit our valiant team of ArenaNet developers against the European guild BOON Control on the ESL center stage!

TentonHammer did an interview during Comic Con where it Talks about dungeon design in the game.

MMO Lite like GW or PS doesn't interest me at all but I think those are more ideal titles for PvPers (far better chance of quality PvP).

SW:TOR, meh, I'll likely try it but I doubt it'll be anything fresh. In gameplay vids it's the same holy trinity just with screwball classes and lots more dialog kicking off missions that'll befuddle the ADD instant everything crowd. You'll cast a fireball with the force, chop someone up with your lightsabre +5, heal with your uber quality medpak, etc - same stuff, different wrapper, and so much more convincing with a fantasy wrapper than a sci-fi wrapper, even if it's SW.

Secret World looks somewhat interesting with its alternate way of building toons and setting but I'm not seeing how a game like that can hold peoples interest for very long like a more typical good MMORPG. They are doing some typical things differently though, and if they do it well, could be intersting. But it's funcom and that could easily mean early disaster followed by loss of interest.

So I guess, most interested to see what Blizzard might do with their next MMORPG since they revolutionized the genre with WoW, have undoubtably learned a lot, and most likely GC has nothing to do with it which is probably the best thing it has going for it. On the flip side, I'm reall sick of Bliz coming up with ways to try to milk players for more money. You get the subs money, deliver something in return regularly. Period. Some trying to milk players for more money for trivial BS. I dread seeing what they might build into their next MMO in terms of attempted milking.

Not sure if you are referring to GW overall as MMO lite, or are including GW2 into that mix, but GW2 is a full fledged MMO and isn't the instanced based game that GW one currently is, the most common complaint against GW 1.

Also having never played DaOC, but hearing how many players loved its Realm vs Realm PVP, the PVP system for GW2 will be a two week battle roayle between 3 Realms where a neutral territory in the middle of the map is fought for, as well as the other players territory. After the two week battle is over, your server is ranked and will be matched with another 3 realms of similar skill.

I concur with Jacon, GW2 is nothing like GW1. GW1 is indeed NOT a MMORPG, and the developers never claimed it was one, only some fanbois tried to make it pass as one. GW2 though is a fully fledged MMORPG, with an entire world to explore.

Aye I wasn't even excited for GW 2 until I watched some videos from Comic Con. One of the main reasons I have been attracted to the two MMO games that I have played is due to the lore the games are based on and having a knowledge of them, LOTRO and WoW. I was interested in TOR for the same reason, but have since after seeing videos of the game, my interest in the game has plummeted due to the fact that once the feature sets and fluff are stripped away from the game at its very core it follows the similar model that MMO gamers have been complaining about these last seven or so years.

This is reason why Buzz around Guild Wars 2 is so big, because Arena Net is finally trying to push the genre forward, and isn't afraid to hide the game as well as watching the videos giving testament to the quality they are trying to push with the game. I mean just watching the combat in this game, it looks more like an action adventure game with melee combat and third person shooter when in ranged.

Arena Net is trying to put the RPG back into back into the Genre, and from all evidence thus far seen, looks like they will be able to accomplish it. I don't think you can consider yourself a MMO gamer and not get excited for what Arena Net is trying to accomplish with the game once you begin to read up on the game and watch videos of it.

I wasn't, until watching the GW2 videos from this thread. Now I'm mildly interested, although the generic (albeit extremely skillful) art style that could just as well be Lineage 2 and every other eastern MMO is a big turnoff.

Looking forward to Prime and Tera. Tera might be a flop, if they don't westernize it right. Could turn into another Aion. Prime is still a long way away, but it might be great hope on the horizon for PvP'ers.

GW2 looks better and better as it gets closer to release. I never played the first one, this one is looking great though. I'll probably give it a spin if I like what I see at release.

Then there is SWTOR. Could be good, but it could be a stinker, too. I'm mildly offended at the way they flout Star Wars canon, and SW in general is played out... but the groupthink at release might be too strong for me to resist. Leaning towards no at this point.

The "MoP" expansion: designed to clean up the mess that was Cataclysm. heh...

GW2 does have me intrigued after looking at some of the videos and design goals. Not sure how well the "dodge" mechanic will play with regards to lag. I'm sure it's all perfect so far with light alpha/beta server loads and custom tweaked clients and such.

At 2:45 the lady claims that there is no other race like the Sylvari in any other game in the genre. I beg to differ....

And your point being? Developers are going to make bold claims to generate excitement for their games. I even raised an eyebrow at that bold claim, because honestly as much as I am into fantasy, I haven't read every fantasy book in existence, nor played every fantasy game.

Even the Sylvan you linked are just similar though to the Sylvari, in appearance somewhat. I think the claim comes from possible overall lore and the design of the race itself, because unlike that Sylvan race you linked to who are more Dryad in nature, the Sylvari on the other hand actually do look more plant like versus tree like.

Once more, I think it was somewhat too bold a claim to make, perhaps the proper term should have been far more different than previous attempts at a plant race.

Sylvari are fruit/vegetables with humanoid appearance. They actually have the stem part (like each end of a cucumber) on their front (naval) and their backs, and grew out from those points. It's pretty damn fascinating, and I give much kudos to the art designers.

The others that were just listed are humanoids with tree-like appearance.

Least that's the conclusion I draw from viewing everything.

I'm not too excited about any upcoming MMO.

But probably Guild Wars 2 is what I'm most interested in right now. I never played the first because it didn't seem like a real MMO, but sounds like this will be different and it looks interesting and it's a fantasy MMO at least.

Star Wars TOR is probably next on my play list. Looks okay, but I'm not a fan of sci-fi MMOs or even that big into Star Wars.

Overall I'm pretty pessimistic about MMOs after playing Warhammer, Age of Conan, Aion, and Rift. Feels like everyone wants to be like WOW. Wish someone would want to be more like Ultima Online for a change. happy

Once you begin investigating and spending time looking into GW2 you will realize that unlike the games you listed, GW2 wants to be nothing like WoW or any other MMO of the last 12 years.

Sure, am I hyped and pimping it right now, most certainly. The reason for that is because until I actually began looking into the game, watching videos, and learning what Arena Net is trying to accomplish with the game, I pretty much had the same response as you. So I do my best to actually get people informed about the game and interested in investigating the game on their own.

Copernicus

Curious to see what a long time gamer can come up with. I have little to no expectations so I can only be pleasantly surprised. Curious to see what kind of game world R. A. Salvatore can come up with too.

Guild Wars 2 and that announced Warhammer40k MMO - but we're very far from that one for now.

Too True, yet, is Tera being led by two former Blizzard developers as well.

The only thing about Tera that even remotely holds my interest, is you do not target anything.

You use your ability (magic or melee) and if the animation comes into 'contact' with your 'enemy' (as it's pvp game also) hit box, then you hit, if it doesn't you miss.

This allows for "player controlled dodging", and not a roll of the dice.

This means the game will be completely controlled and dominated by the players willing to use speed hacks.

Epic fail right out of the gate.
