I was disappointed. They played almost all eMotive songs, which are covers. I didn't really like that album at all, so I was pretty bummed. They sounded amazing, and the opening band was called Red Bacteria Vacuum who are 3 girls from Tokyo, and they were crazy fun, so I enjoyed the show overall, but I was hoping for a lot more from one of my favorite bands.

I saw them last night... RBV was like the perfect opening act - if you're going to be stuck listening to a band you've never heard of, it's hard to top a trio of petite, high-energy Japanese girls playing loud punk with screaming vocals with adorable thickly-accented banter in between songs.

Unlike you Kall I was anything but disappointed... then again I've been listening to a playlist I made based off prior setlists so maybe I was better prepared. Setlist.fm indicates they played 8 covers out of 19. Anyway, I thought they sounded amazing, good visuals, the weather was nice (yay outdoor theaters), and Billy had incredible energy and sang and played great while moving all around the stage. I also greatly appreciated when Maynard explained that rather than go off stage, play some grab ass, and expect the audience to beg them to come back out they'd just save everyone some time and go right to the encore songs.

I'm not a huge fan of Emotive either but I still want to see Maynard live one of these days. Don't care which band it's with.

Ok maybe not his solo stuff.

Like I said, they sounded amazing. Their issue wasn't that at all, but I've seen them 3 times prior to this show, and this was by far my least favorite. There were 9 covers, and 2 other songs off of eMotive. They also played the aMotion version of 3 Libras which I don't like as much. "Counting Bodies like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums" was amazing live, I'll give you that.

While I say I was disappointed, I still enjoyed the show, but I'm a HUGE APC fan, and their first 2 albums are absolutely incredible. To only have 7 of the 19 songs played off of those albums combined just bummed me out. I didn't look at eMotive as an actual album, but as a remake of anti war songs to protest the war. I don't consider cover songs something a band should be playing, when we're paying $60+ a ticket. I can see cover songs at the local bar.

I just really wanted more from them. sad

But, I'll put their live shows against anyone out there though. Maynard is so good, it's almost hypnotic.

Yeha Kall, I'd never seen Maynard live, I had the tragic attempt to go see Tool in Sacramento last summer end 15 minutes in with a blown radiator, so this was a real treat. Plus I only paid face value $45/ticket, thanks to picking them up directly at the box office on campus. So that helped too. happy

I think the only specific song I wished they had played that they didn't was Magdalena... and yeah, the original version of 3 Libras would have been better. I wouldn't have complained about more stuff from the first two albums, of course, either.

Hopefully this might spur them to get into the studio after this tour is over? APC and/or Tool are just slightly overdue for new product. sad

Rumors are swarming on both doing new stuff soon. I think Tool will release another album, while APC will release a song or two online. Maynard seems to feel CDs are a thing of the past, and so are complete albums. These are two bands whose stuff I will always buy though, because I'm very confident it will be well put together. I'm borderline obsessed with Tool, so I've been salivating for a new album for some time now.

It's too bad you didn't get to see Maynard before he started performing from the back of the stage. He's amazing.

Best concert I've ever been to was Tool during their Aenima tour. It was in a smallish indoor venue call the Warehouse at the time (The Kool Haus (formerly the Warehouse) is approximately 27,000 sq ft (2,500 m2). and has a capacity of approximately 2,500 people. re: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Guvernment). The opening band was forgettable, but when Tool came out it was pure awesomesauce. Justin was to the left of Maynard in full white body paint, Adam was to the right in full blue body paint, and Maynard was half white and half blue. Who knows what Danny was doing behind the mountain of drums. They opened with 27 minutes of Third Eye then went straight into Stinkfist and when the first few bars blasted through the speakers the entire venue went nuts and there wasn't a place you could stand without being in the mosh pit.

When I saw Tool again on the 10,000 days tour, maybe because I'm such an old man now and have completely mellowed out ... I really enjoyed when they played Wings part 1 and 2.

2nd best concert I saw was Death From Above 1979, Queens of the Stone Age, and NIN. Fantastic from start to finish.

I think APC opening for NIN was my favorite concert. I saw Mars Volta open for Tool also. One of those would be on top for me.

You effer... besides having my car die on the way to see Tool last summer, I also went to that NIN concert. Of course I got to the venue a little later than I wanted... at about 7:40 for the 8pm show. AFTER WAITING THROUGH 50 MINUTES OF THE CLUSTERFUCK OF SECURITY LINE I arrived in the arena halfway through Judith... their final song. angry

Maynard apologized after their set during that concert because the fans made APC too famous too fast and they didn't have enough music to play for more than 45 minutes.

That was the recent concert in Sacramento, right? I was going to go to that but the wife is in Brasil and having just moved to CA my friends list is pretty slim. plain
Wasssup CA fkers, I'm in your backyard, living in the Armpit. shock

*Before moving from NY I saw Tool play in NJ. It was good, but out of the 4 shows I saw that summer it was the 3rd best....Creed and The Cult were better. Maybe the 1 mile walk through the field of mud had a damper on it. Creed surprisingly rocked the ToS: profanity out of Jones Beach..it was a stadium show like the old days.

I have a hard time believing Creed can rock the ToS: profanity out of a paper bag, let alone put on a better show then Tool.

Believe me, it was hard for me to believe as well. But I was there. They crushed it, felt like the old stadium concerts back in the 80s. It hurts me to even say they were better than Tool, but I gotta call it like I see it.
