you win.

I thought for sure the players could hold out for more considering how well they did last time.

The owners ran away from conflict last time. It was obvious they realized how much they screwed themselves last time, and were going to take some of that back. I believe the players realized that there was no way they were going to get a deal as good as they got last time, so they had to go about getting a good deal for themselves a different way. It is apparent that the owners were the big winners in this debacle, but that should not be a surprise either, as that is commonly the case in these labor negotiations. Also it was the owners who locked out the players. The owners told the players they could not work until the owners were satisfied, as opposed to a strike where the workers tell the employer they will not work until satisfied. It put the burden on the players, they were not the ones who stopped business. They were satisfied, it was there job to make concessions until the owners were satisfied, without giving up so much that the players became unsatisfied. Finding that balance is what took the process so long, but I had faith from the beginning that niether side was going to let their differences get in the way of splitting nine billion dollars. The NBA lockout has a much, much different feel to it. The NFL lockout was mostly just about the money, the NBA lockout is about the entire structure of the organization. What makes the NBA lockout so interesting is that certian franchises can lose less money by not having an NBA season this year, which makes them less likely to give any ground in talks. I am fairly confident that the NBA will miss games, if not an entire season. The owners will get the deal they want, and it will cost them a season or at least a few dozen games out of a season to do so.

EDIT: Also I find these labor situation very interesting, having been involved in a strike myself a few years back. I think the most interesting thing with the NFL situtation is the decision to recertify. That is not as easy of a decision as you may think it is. The majority of the players were prevented from working because of some issues that only effected the top echelon of the NFL players. Franchise tags and transition tag issue do not effect most of the players, and other issue do not effect the majority. Some thing I learned about unions from being on strike is that those on the bottom gain very little advantage from the unions. I stayed out on strike for five and a half weeks - the entire duration of the strike - and in the end the difference between what was originally offered and what we gained through striking was nothing as far as I was concerned. The union itself made great gains in the strike, and the upper tier of workers gain much. That is the nature of unions, they help the ones on top screw the ones on the bottom, and the players have to decide if this is something they want; the key here is that a majority of the players in the NFL are on the bottom of the totem pole, so the question becomes did the NFLPA do a good job representing them. It is not likely that the players vote no to recertify, but if they decide not to recertify I would certianly understand how they could do so.

Finally some football.

Hopefully this will be the year for the St. Louis Rams. We arguably have the best QB in the division.

Except the Vikings are not in the same division as the Rams. And saying that you have the best QB in that division is like saying you are the fastest retard. That being said, I have said for years that T Jack can be a great QB on a team that will accept and appreciate him. Now it is time for him to show the world what he can do in Seattle. It might take a season to learn the offense completely, but I look for him to be a stud for the Seahawks.

Where is Bern at NW? I hate to do this, but if you talk to him (or if anyone else does), tell him I have to hear from him by Tuesday if he wants me to reserve his spot in the FFL, otherwise he runs the risk of being replaced.

I don't know, I haven't heard from Bern in months. Maybe he short circuited after the Pack won it all and now he is a zombie.
